I don't know how long your wife has been gone, but don't make any abrupt changes you may regret later. If you want to drive a truck, go for it, but hold on to the house for a bit, make sure it's for you.....

You'll be fine. Just close your eyes when on a high skinny road! Sorry for your loss!

Big ocean going ships pass under this bridge all the time, it's the last bridge on the Columbia before the Pacific Ocean.
It's even seen this bad old girl.

I wouldn't worry about it. Your more likely to get shot or stabbed at a truck stop, than falling off the side of a narrow road.

You make a great point that I taught as part of the "Fear Management" section of my rock climbing school. Concentrate on what you can control. The old adage of "don't look down" has some element of truth, but only a part. Indeed you can and should look down in order to see your footholds. Fear in that situation is all about thinking of the bad consequences if you fall. It's a natural reaction and state of being. The important thing is if you allow your mind to dwell on the bad consequences you aren't focusing on the things you can do to move upward. Only focus on the things you CAN control. Focusing on things you can't control is counterproductive.

In truck driving this seems to be something I think about mostly in construction zones with narrow lanes. Lane control is my focus, getting centered in the lane so I'm not impinging on another lane of traffic and not hitting the Jersey barriers. Worrying about getting in a wreck isn't helpful, focusing on lane control is helpful.

Sorry but you don't. Sleep is important, it matters a lot and not to beat up on you, you should think seriously about sleep.

As for heights, don't worry about it, I am the same way, fell off a roof 20 years ago and since even small step ladders really bother me.

I can tell you the worst, I mean worst time I ever had driving was on a by pass bridge in PA in the fog at night, I had a spatial distortion moment where it felt like the truck was turning up side down when it was on the road. I have never had a problem like that before or since and it may not sound bad, it was. I have been on a couple roads where there was no guard rail or safety cable, both were in quarries, one was a good drop but I had no problems with them.
