I have a student right now that is driving me crazy. We started last night off I-5 x 278 at the Pilot. That is South of Sacramento and about 150 north of L.A. We drive down make our delivery in L.A and then head east on I-10 with a pickup in Indio that delivers in Wyoming. He ask me as we are pulling into Indio if we are going back to the Pilot we were at last night. I had to take a minute before I could answer. It's his second week on the road. I have never seen anyone who absolutely could not tell you where he is at, where he is going or how he is going to get there.
He thought we were going back north on the 5. I don't know what else to do, we go over map reading and trip planning every night. Statistically speaking he should have guessed one right by now.
Oh and then he thought we had already passed Phoenix. Phoenix!!!!!! How would we have missed Phoenix, I don't understand how this could be happening. We have not crossed into Arizona, Phoenix is not on the way to Wyoming.
Sorry guys, just needed to vent.
Scariest situation you have been in?

Yep, there are individuals of the younger generation that are geographically challenged. Relying on GPS to go anywhere, they are basically oblivious to their surroundings. At least you were able to "catch" his errors before he went running off toward Oregon.... or Phoenix.... -
scariest moment was when I bought my first truck. after I was handed the keys I realized what I had just did. scared the #### out of me!!

Write on a piece of paper from a city to another city and have him trip plan without any help. Can he read a map?Are you writing down the routing for each trip?If so maybe you should go over the routing with him and keep going over it till he gets it.Some ppl are slower learners and just need help and patience.Hows his driving? Its only been 2 weeks, hang in there and I bet by the end of the training hes going to be an excellent trainee.

Please give him a chance to prove himself.Im not there of course but I have confidence in your student.Whats he tell you for not knowing if he went thru a city or not? This guys really wants to succeed otherwise he wouldn't have went thru hell to come this far.Let me talk to him, tell him to pm me.
