Yeah, I had a Century class at the time. They are notorious for rocking and rolling in the wind.

Eating at truck-stop restuarants. ha ha. Kidding aside, I would have to say the scariest situation was last winter. I JUST got off my trainer's truck and was sent through Wyoming with an 8,000 pound load during a very bad snow storm. High winds, ice on the road, no safe haven for about 75 miles. I'm pretty sure that I could handle it better now, but back then when I was still wet behind the ears, I almost had to change my shorts. Everything comes easier with experience.

    Thanks
    Paul

I'm sure I would know if I was in AZ. I would start melting.

Its nice to see confidence in some one you don't know, knowing that they have tried hard and are close to there goal. I couldn't ever be a trainer my patience is not the best, my communication skills well lets just say I'm a hillbilly. I personally think the boy will be a road hazard if his navigation is that bad he will make a split second decision that could permanently effect lots of people. I think its better to tell a person sorry you are not cut out for this than to hope they get better soon. I hate telling people things they don't wanna hear but sometimes its best. That is what a trainer is for to teach and evaluate their skills and mental ability. Just my opinion but there are a lot of CDL qualified people that should have been told this ain't for you. Just after returning from Iraq in 05 we decided I should drive a while before going back to my normal job. (equip mech) I was headed north on 67 at the 44mm seen an airgas truck that was on access road on other side of interstate come thru fence up on shoulder and hit a flatbed of steel headed same direction right in passenger side of sleeper no way they seen it coming. That caused the world to fall apart it seemed I'm not sure what happened next but it made it to our side. 3 people died that day I'm not sure how many were hurt, to include me and my 11 year old son at the time. Not important to some but my constant companion and protection Freckles didn't make it she was old and brittle and irreplaceable. The thing that makes me feel the most shallow is the loss of the truck that put this in my blood it was left to me while I was oversees. Took my first ride in that truck I loved it and at the time felt I needed it. This was all caused by a CDL grad that couldn't quite cut it otr so got a local job. He said his turbo caught on fire and since he was hauling EXPLOSIVE gas he jumped out of truck while it was still moving. The gas was nitrogen bottles to my knowledge its inert and not explosive. My son is 19 now got his CDL and has made a #### fine driver in the making hauls grain in state. Sorry for the long post it sucks having to be the bad guy but if they can't cut it can them makes for alot of misery for others. Ethos my hats off to you.

haha my girlfriend was waiting on a new medical student to show up for classes, everyone was like where is this chick, she is late. The girl called, said she would be there next day as she was almost there, she said she was in arkansas. She was driving from AZ to OK!

Last night he thought Salt Lake City was Cheyenne. Tennessee is South of Colorado and apparently Texas and Arizona are some of the major cities along I-5. I was speechless, literally. We just went from Seattle to Los Angeles. Providence is the capital of Massachusetts and Rhode Island and Maine don't even exist.
I know you guys think I am embellishing but I swear to you I am not.

Understand I am not making sport here but this is what I am dealing with and I just don't know what else to do. We had just gone over the trip plan. I cannot in good conscience pass him along. I would not be doing him any favors. I just can't seem to get it through to him that truck drivers absolutely must know where they are at and where they are going.

It's a pervasive and growing problem. Nobody knows ANY geography anymore.

I walked into the store this morning to get my wife's Sunday coupon papers. The girl behind the counter knows me and asked where I was heading out to in the morning. Told her was running up to jersey this evening have to deliver first thing in the morning.

The new guy behind the counter I hadn't seen before says 'wow that's a long way to have to be there in the morning. They run you out west like that alot and expect you to be there the next day?'

i just looked at him and said 'really? Are you that ####### dead between your ears?' And just turned and walked out with the other girl giggling under her breath. She knew what kind of response that was going to get she knows me lol

are they really that stupid are do they just not care to learn?

Option C: Geography isn't a tested subject so it's not taught anymore. More and more schools are only teaching "to the test". Science, Social Studies (including geography), Art, Music and basically anything but reading and math aren't tested and therefore only given a passing thought in the schools, if they're taught at all. Generally, if they are taught, it's in the context of a reading class, where science/social studies are "taught" because they're the content of reading passages that the students have to answer comprehension questions about.

This is one of the reasons that I no longer teach in the public schools and I homeschool my own children.

Yeah guess that really just shows my age huh?

It was a required subject when I was in school with its own class and textbook. Not just domestic but world geography. No wonder the world is dumbing down so much when these things aren't even taught anymore.

I just can't comprehend NOT know something as simple as where the states are. Just defies any logic.
