It's only going to get worse for a little while yet. The first crop of students who have been subjected to NCLB and high stakes testing are starting to graduate. These students have been deprived of general education. It's all math and reading to the exclusion of everything else. There's hope though. The tide is starting to turn. There was a school in Washington state last year who's parents got together and boycotted the state test. Nationwide, more and more parents are realizing they have the choice to "opt out" their kids and are taking that option. There's a current large scale protest by principals primarily on Long Island, but all around New York State regarding certain provisions of "Race To The Top". Even though we're being vilified and lied about, teachers have finally had enough and we're speaking out. Hopefully things will start changing soon.

    Anyway, sorry to hijack. :)

    yeah me too lol

guess to get back to our regularly scheduled programming I guess my scariest one would have to be about 2 months solo......seems like forever ago now but not really......coming downhill on 33 through Athens, ohio in the construction zone. one lane and 45 mph zone and 45k in the box. i'm already at 45 knowing the zone is there as I come over the crest backing it down coming up on a line of cars ahead and these two ####### kids on a moped pull right out in front of me. less than a truck length ahead. and he guns it to get all of about 20 mph out of it. I stood on the brakes and tried to push the pedal through the floor and still almost didn't get slowed up in time to keep from plowing them over. the kid on the back was looking back at me with eyes as big as pancakes. never even had time to get on the horn.

bottom of the hill they made the left turn lane and stopped for oncoming traffic. I had nothing behind me in sight for a good mile so I stopped right there beside them and let them have it and let them know just how close to dead they just came.

kid driving just looked dumbfounded and said 'I didn't know'

    well, now you do #######.

my knees were shaking a good 20 miles after I got rolling again. even below the limit by a good 10 mph and slowing it still almost wasn't enough when they puttered out in front of me.

Scary situation from yesterday, as I was driving my car, but it involves a truck being operated by a steering wheel holder, so I'll put it here.

I live off a two lane road that is also a major trucking route. The street I have to turn on is tiny and easy to miss if you don't know it's there. As such, I make sure I turn my turn signal on fairly early (but not too early) and gradually slow down instead of doing most of the slowing nearer to the turn. So, I go to approach the turn and there's a truck a fair distance behind me. He shouldn't have even been able to get close if he was going even 10-15 mph over the speed limit. I'd already gotten close enough to the turn that I was pretty committed, and my little 4 cylinder civic wouldn't have had the power to speed up in time anyway, and realize that this guy is INCHES from my back bumper. I floored it as best I could and managed the right turn at 45mph and I swear if I'd had an extra coat of paint on my car he'd have hit me. The guy had to be going at least 70 in a 45. Sometimes I hate where I live.

It's simple Ethos, he's just screwing with you. If you showed him where you are and the route you're going to take, he knows. Don't stress yourself for nothing.

Yeah I asked this as well but I really don't think he is. After 3 Weeks of over hearing calls you get to know people and I know he needs this job.

I Was rolling up the NJ turnpike, and I blew a steer running over 80k. I had racks of water in my trailer, and I blew out in the center lane. Managed to get over but that was an EYE OPENER. Got tire fixed finished load to MA

Had just emtied out a petroleum tanker. It was snowing hard I was driving a Western Star with a midsize sleeper pulling a 12k gallon triaxle tank. I was attemting to climb a really steep hill I made it about3/4 of the way and the truck started to spin. I found myself trying to go forward and yet I was sliding backwards. I managed to help guide the trailer to the edge of the shoulder. I put on a set of chains I started up again Nada made it to the exact same spot with chains. I helped guide the trailer back to the bottom of the hill and waited. I was dumb enough to try it again same result Although this time a man in a Ford F150 stopped and asked if he could help I said uhh I dont think so He insisted. So he dragged out a 25 foot chain and hooked it to the towing hook. Low and behold he added enough momentum to help me over the the crest of the hill
