my first truck, a 1980 chevy c-10, i had until 1985, then got a 1985 c-10 fleet side and traded that in 1994 for my t-bird.

then it was various cars, and one ford ranger that i had for 6 years.

all trucks were 2x4 .......4x4 was even back then, priced too much for me, and i had no real need for one

I custom ordered my Ram, and the next year marked the last for a manual transmission in any new American truck.

So, we’ll just see how long that Cummins will run. ;)

i thought that the manual shift cummins, were exploding those transmissions, which was why Dodge (RAM) went to automatics?

I don’t know where you heard that, but mine certainly hasn’t blown yet.

That sounds like a case of misuse by the owner, by adding more power to the tune of 200 hp or more.

How are you relevant to a conversation about modern trucking when you think Mack makes good trucks?

Never heard of the trans being a huge problem of going bad. It was rear diffs on the earlier ones. I think they tried to blame the manual transmissions on taking out the diffs. Most of the trucks that had diffs blown out were loaded stupid heavy all the time. When hotshotting started up 20-25 years ago and the power started coming up on the engines I saw many stuck on side of road and in rest areas and parking lots with oil pouring out of the blown rear center sections.

No. Again, we are discussing the unprofessionalism of modern drivers.

    Ask @REO6205.

    "Is it common? No.

Does it happen? Yes it does.

I started driving in the late 60s and stimulants were common. Bennies and diet pills were available at just about every truck stop if you knew who to talk to. Drug testing has pretty much eliminated that and that's a good thing.

What we see now is a broader spectrum of drug abuse and it's mainly recreational rather than vocational. Again, drug testing helps keep a lid on it but I doubt if the problem will ever go away entirely.

I don't preach. In my younger years I popped as many pills as it took to get the job done. I'm glad things have changed. Most of the guys I worked with doing that kind of trucking are either dead, in jail, or disabled to the point of immobility."

You not opening your eyes isn't me avoiding a question.

So there's one. A professional from the good old days. You work with him. Ask him.

One who may or may not have made mistakes in their youth does not constitute sufficient reason to impune and discredit an entire generation.

You may harbor contempt for those who came before. I don’t, and no man of honor would feel the need to.
