I was dropping off some recycling stuff at my local drop site. when i spotted this old rough looking truck truck, with a 53 foot trailer just sitting on a lot with the driver behind the wheel taking it easy. (i did see on the front side of the trailer U.S. MAIL )
Then I notice the Tractor about a 12 year old Freightliner (columbia)? has decent tires,...... all 8 of them. HUH??
Nope it didn't have a tag axle it just seemed the inner front tandem axle's tires and wheels were MISSING.
I was in my jeep so I make #### chat and ask if he was trying to get better MPG with the missing wheels? He laughs and says no this company does anything they can get by with.
he runs 60 miles of interstate one way twice each day. I asked if they are always light on weight, He said heck no we go right to 80K sometimes.

I can't believe the companys hasn't gotten caught doing stunts like this.

Do you always believe everything a driver says? If hes dumb enough to run a truck that's not legal he's dumb enough to talk about it.

I hoped he was lying about the 80K but still how does say he didn't notice wheels MISSING ??
There are weigh stations that haven't been used in years on his route, But they are building new building there right now.

Lots of morons out there. If a person is running for a carrier like that they deserve whatever they get.

There's a mail hauling outfit out of Little Rock that has a lot of their trucks set up like that, except they take the two wheels off the rear axle.

Well well tech if he had 6 of those tires that would allow him 36 k ......i wonder if that would held his mpg less tires is less drag and if he had h rated tires he could load 42k and not be pushing the tire max weigjt.....maybe i,m overthinking this

My guess is that the truck is probably set up legal. Probably a loud mouth driver.

Singling wheels is done all the time.

100% legal if you can scale out with one tire and axle.

Mail carriers always run light. 80k for mail would be very unusual.

Sound like pat salmon and sons. They are all us mail contractors, nothing else. They have the red prostars set up this way.
