I have a phone interview with Roehl Friday at 1pm for Flatbed. This will be very helpful information.

What are pay expectations after completing training and entering the curtain side of flatbed?

Don't expect to get rich your 1st year or 2 as a CDL jockey.

Your pay is based in part on experience -- of which you currently have either very little, or none.

Depending on the carrier, the freight, the expected miles, & the endorsements you may have -- I'd say you could expect to start out between 45 & 50 cents per mile.

You should also be paid for "accessorials" -- tarping, detention, etc. Those fees vary from carrier to carrier.

Curtainside should be at least 60 cents per mile to start, regular flatbed gets paid a little bit more in mileage pay and they also get tarping pay but I don't think that it is worth it. With curtainside (and Conestoga trailers which you might get some loads for as well) you never tarp or use chains for securement, only straps. Make sure to buy a strap roller and some good gloves, you will probably end up buying a variety of gloves for different situations.
