Pay for the call started 3 or 4 years ago. It started because of drivers saying "why take the extra risk of HM when there's no extra reward" and because while less then 10% of our loads are HM, HM loads represent almost 40% of our inspections and our CSA score was hurting as a result.

The pay was supposed to be only for placarded loads, but drivers have realized if they make the call whenever there is any HM on the trailer they can make an easy 25 dollars for a 5 minute phone call.

We were told on the Aurora parts account to start calling in some months back, even though none of our loads are placarded. They'll even take product off to make sure placards aren't required.

When did it become acceptable for companies to not pay drivers for absolutely every single thing they do for the company?

This ######## about "if the tires aren't spinning, I'm not making money" is a slave's mentality. Especially when you're being screwed out of a percentage of those precious miles by the mover's guide.

When companies of any occupation and anywhere start paying their employees to open the front door to get to work, then we'll be making some headway.

Im contemplating asking the bossman to pay me a little extra to turn that big motor over. If he doesnt, then i wont work. Simple.
