Yup, she's right. For the most part. My handbook says, WITHOUT beards, drivers must be clean shaven daily.
As far as the belt buckle, it says, "Large belt buckles [over 3"X4"], are not allowed.
It also says no sheathe knives.

I don't know about all here, but if a guy showed up at my dock looking like a mountainman/woman, I'd have some serious reservations about their mental state.

I feel that if the company wants to put forward what they consider a professional image, then they have the right to enforce a dress code. Image has a lot to do with getting and keeping accounts, and also with attracting the type of drivers you want.

They are paying the driver to work there, so they can enforce what they want. A person who does not like the rules does not have to work there. The company I just signed on with has several rules about driver appearance and truck appearance. This is just fine with me. I know I won't be hearing comments about nasty drivers like the one driver we had at my last company.

I know the trucks will be washed every week and the interior detailed before I get into it. I know to take enough clean clothes with me, and not to weat cutoff shirts, shorts or sandles, which I never wear anyway. If I get dirty I am expected to stop and get clean before going to a shipper or receiver. That is spelled out in the manual, and was repeated to me several times. I like it.

A policeman has a dress code, so do EMTs. Many factories have uniforms, so do restruants and fast food places. Trucking companies should have standards too. Unfortunately, too many don't.

I guess it's just the dinosaur in me, but I wish more companies would enforce things like this, then maybe this business would start to get a better image out to the public.

 

Yep, what gives some drivers the idea they have the "right" to look like a bum and talk smack to customers, dispatch, scale masters, etc. I went in a scale some time back and couldn't believe what I was seein/hearing from the driver called in in front of me. The scale man finally told this dolt to wait while he checked my oversize permit. I told the scale man I was sorry he had to deal with idiots like that. He laughed, the idiot turned red, I left. I don't drive fast and he never caught me, maybe he went the cuff & stuff route.

PS, I pulled a silver bullet for Scn for a year. And left to buy my own ride. I liked them a lot.

 

I confirm. Noticed a lot more bad trailers at the beginning of 2008 than at the end. Trailers are being replaced and I'm seeing better tires.

 

The problem finding an MT that isn't TBO is probably caused by fellow drivers. I consistantly find TBOs in the MT rows which is bad enough, but not leaving a note on a TBO trailer is even more inconsiderate.

 

Wear my boots most of the time and think it's a good policy but have never had any problems with an SNI nazi when I walked into an OC with my tennis shoes on. Had an uncomfortable pair of boots a year ago but SNI paid for another pair which fit just right and I wear them whenever I can.
