They are going Nazi on the cell phone policy. There was a driver on our account that got canned cuz he called support shift while driving. They actually looked it up and saw that he was driving when he called. So CYA......

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW....he got what he deserved......
-
Ummmm....no...Not against the law. Against company policy.

I was advised a while back by a DOT official that Everything a driver communicates with his or her company be on the people net or qual com.
WoofWagon Thanks this. -
That is generally the case even though a DOT has no authority on how you communicate with your company. It is good to use a messaging system that way everything is documented. Really the case with the outlaw companies that want you to make that impossible load. Better have everything documented.WoofWagon Thanks this.

Some cities have a complete ban of cell phone use, like Chapel Hill NC effective Oct 1, 2013:
Town of Chapel Hill : Cell Phone Ban
Schneider doesn't have a practical choice anymore.WoofWagon Thanks this. -

Total bans, handheld and handsfree, exist in some cities. Ban = against the law = Schneider has no choice.

ARE THERE EXCEPTIONS?
If the driver is using the cell phone in an emergency or is communicating with a parent, children, guardian or spouse.
One could make the case that our employers act like parents at times. Or children. Or the driver managers treat us like they're married to us...and not in a good way.
