I asked about a cb radio a few days ago, and was informed my truck will not have one in it and will need to purchase my own. What about the antenna? Will I have to purchase that, too?

Not unless the previous driver trashed the ones that came on it.

Although you may want to upgrade in the future. The ones that come on the trucks. Are el cheapos

Added: A $20 radio is as good as most. Don't think you have to shell out big bucks at first. You can do that later. When you have more money and feel a need to.

If you are gonna buy a new radio, you need to have an antenna system that will not damage your radio. If you have a lot of reflection back into your radio, it will damage it over time.

I suggest that you purchase a mount, antenna, and coax that is not already on the truck. You can get all this for under 50 bucks if you spend conservative. A cb is an important tool on the road. So you want to be able to hear and be heard. And in my 30 plus years of radios, I can tell you the antenna systems that are on these trucks are inadequate.

If you ever get down here to Texas, I can help you out.

I'd love the help, too. Not sure when I'd ever get down there though, and I am thinking I'm going to want a CB right away, for safety (and fun). I am somewhat decent in figuring out how to hook stuff up, and if not, I have a few friends who are car electronic install geeks who could figure it out for me.

I am, however, feeling quite lost when looking up what good radios there are, etc. I'd love to just be told what radio, amp, antenna, etc., would be good/best to buy.

I am not limited on funds, but definitely not fancying the idea of spending a small fortune either.

I do have an amp I used to use for my cellphone back when I lived in a no-cell range area back in WA. I also had a truck grade antenna and coaxial cable to hook up to that amp, but I gave that away.

Anyhow, I'd love for you, or someone, to throw me out some names of good products. Like a quality radio and antenna, or any other tips. I imagine I should be asking this in the CB forum though.

I like Galaxy radios. I run a base here at the house that is a galaxy and also a galaxy for the truck. I'm in a Cascadia now and only running stock antennas so I just have one of my cheap Cobras in my truck now.

If you are gonna run an amp, I suggest u get a good 40 watt radio like a Galaxy 33. For an amp.... Look into x-force amps. If your running this stuff, get a good quality antenna like a Wilson or Monkey Made.

I do already have an amp. Actually, I have two. I have a Wilson, and then a stronger one, that I don't know the name for. Both are at my step-father's house though (he's using one for his cell, the other is just there). The antenna I had was a Wilson, also, that looked similar to this..

I wouldn't have given half my stuff away had I known I would actually ever have a use for it again, lol. I do still have one amp and a bit of coaxial left though.

A good 40 amp radio, huh? That gives me a good start for what to find. Thanks!

The cell phone stuff will not work on cb. The pic is of a cell phone antenna and a cell phone amp will not work on 11 meters.

Looks like standard is 4 watt, and the Galaxy 33 is 8 watt max? I'm seeing nothing near 40 watt. You messin' with me, lol?
