Sliding the fifth wheel wouldn't do him any good. Also sliding fifth wheel isnt worth it.

Not worth the chance. Cops can still pull u over and bring out the portable scales. U should knocked the snow of your roof to lighten the load.

I agree sliding your 5th wheel sucks. However, if he slid his 5th wheel forward one notch, it would have transferred about 500 pounds to his steers, and took that weight off the drives. He then could have slid his trailer tandems back one or two holes to put that weight on the drives, and he probably would have been perfect on the weight.

I pull those loads all the time, I have my 5th wheel where I never have to move it. Those heavy loads, with a full tank of fuel, have me over on my steers by 40 pounds, I always burn enough to be under by the time I get to a coup.

Of course it will. I've balanced 80,000 lb loads before. Yeah it's not worth it but it's part of the job. Looking at his numbers his fifth wheel is in the wrong place to begin with. It should be another hole or two forward and leave it there. That'll also reduce the trailer gap drag a hair too. The way it is now, any 79K+ load he'll have problems.

If the scales are closed then you really don't have a problem. But is that the right attitude to carry?

Well, cleaned out the truck yesterday. Along with another driver doing the same, 3 year vet. The other guy had formally quit. I'm sitting on the fence.

Grabbed the local paper this morning. Half a page of openings locally. Everything from yard driver to OTR.

One company relocating their "home terminal" 30 miles up the road. Adding 600 drivers (private fleet) over the next few months.
