I have a beef with any company that does not pay their drivers for all of their on duty time. If you like to work for free, have at it. Glad it makes you happy. I don't know who would like to work for free. Certainly not me!

If you did, you wouldn't leave. Unless you don't like working Monday thru Friday during the day and home every afternoon.

And I say you need to have your eyes checked ASAP. I've been a driver for over twenty years.

so im getting close to working for schneider on the greensboro, nc intermodal outfit. i had a phone interview yesterday and she said another lady will be calling me to "give me an idea of whats its like in the day in life of an intermodal driver" so i believe everything is going good. But how will orientation be? I know its in chicago for a few days. I live in NC so i thought be going to the charlotte OC. I have not driven since Jan 2012 so a little over six months. Will they give me a little refresher to get used to it again? I know my road test might be a little ugly, as well as my pre trip. ( i got lazy with my pretrip the last couple yrs with a smaller company) I did get my CDL through Schnieder back in 05' so i know with a little time and practice ill be as good as new. Yall think theyll go over pre trip again or let me get some behind the wheel time? everything else seems to be going good though as far as getting hired again
thanks for all the help guys and girls

Because nobody would like to constantly read about a company that treats their drivers great. It would get boring in short order.

Well, I've used up 8 hours of my 14 so far today...... But have gone a whopping 47 miles. Took my 10 last night in French Camp CA, then had a live unload in Tracy with a 10:30 appointment. Got there at 10:20 and didn't leave until 13:50. I had a preassignment to pick up in Stockton and deliver in Oxnard at 0500 but had it taken off because my live unload took too long. Then got a new preassignment to pick up back at the French Camp OC and deliver to Pallet King in Tracy. Got here at 15:00 and still havnt been touched...

Only good news I have is that when I'm done here I have a preassignment that I pick up at the French Camp OC and deliver to the Walmart DC in Grandview WA. I'll deliver on the 2nd and then get to start my hometime on the 2nd or 3rd.

You were called a troll because you are exhibiting the classics signs of being a troll. You're flaming and misdirecting this thread (and presumably others) trying to create emotional responses. I don't think its a very nice thing to do, but you're free to do as you like.

As for compensation - I plan on working about 280 days this year, in other words about 10-20 days more than I would working a M-F gig. I haul a dry van, in two years I have touched 5 loads, everything else is customer unload or drop and hook. When I'm in the dock I'm off duty, reading, watching a movie, sleeping, etc. If I'm on the customers property more than 2 hours I start getting paid to do whatever I want. If I do touch the freight I get paid, the only 'unpaid' work I do are pretrips, posttrips, and fueling. Today I drove 400 miles and will be paid for 412 plus 1 hour of detention pay, and $15 dollars for a trailer shuttle that took less than 30 minutes total time. I should make at least $52k this year. If you adjust for cost of living that's like earning $65k living in LA. With only two years experience I think that's pretty good. Plus OTR fits the lifestyle I want; I'm home when I want for the time I want.

I've looked into going local. I found I would earn more but I wouldn't actually make more. I'd lose the per diem tax deduction and pay more in rent/commuting costs so at the end of the year I'd have the same or less cash in my pocket. I've looked at smaller OTR companies in my area as well. Turns out I'd probably make about the same. In other words the grass isn't always greener.

I would ask that you try and see things from others perspective and try to help others instead of denigrating their choices. You like your company, bully for you. I'm happy where I'm at.

I drove less than 30 miles today, and made over $75.

Why did Schneider fire you? You're obviously butt hurt about something other than simple good faith.
