I just want to see why drivers drive for a company that doesn't pay them for all of their on duty time in some fashion. Also one that pays the actual miles that truck drove. Not some computer generated miles which will short the driver. I get paid from the time I clock in until the time I clock out. And that is exacly the way all drivers should be paid. If someone wants to settle for less, let em.

As for compensation - I plan on working about 280 days this year, in other words about 10-20 days more than I would working a M-F gig. I haul a dry van, in two years I have touched 5 loads, everything else is customer unload or drop and hook. When I'm in the dock I'm off duty, reading, watching a movie, sleeping, etc.

For edification, does that mean your 14 is up and you are no longer responcible for your equipment?

If I'm on the customers property more than 2 hours I start getting paid to do whatever I want.

But your 14 clock is not up yet. Are you saying you have to be on duty and unpaid until after the second hour?

If I do touch the freight I get paid, the only 'unpaid' work I do are pretrips, posttrips, and fueling.

There you go. On duty, not driving and in the service of their truck. You are performing uncompensated work. Sad!

Today I drove 400 miles and will be paid for 412 plus 1 hour of detention pay, and $15 dollars for a trailer shuttle that took less than 30 minutes total time. I should make at least $52k this year. If you adjust for cost of living that's like earning $65k living in LA. With only two years experience I think that's pretty good. Plus OTR fits the lifestyle I want; I'm home when I want for the time I want.

I've looked into going local. I found I would earn more but I wouldn't actually make more. I'd lose the per diem tax deduction and pay more in rent/commuting costs so at the end of the year I'd have the same or less cash in my pocket. I've looked at smaller OTR companies in my area as well. Turns out I'd probably make about the same. In other words the grass isn't always greener.

I would ask that you try and see things from others perspective and try to help others instead of denigrating their choices. You like your company, bully for you. I'm happy where I'm at.

A competition? If I driver 30 miles or sit for 8 hours, it all comes out to $215.12 for the day

I spend 3 nights out a week. Rest of the time I'm raising my kids and spending time with my wife. I make about 65k a year. I'm not OTR. I haul for 1 customer. I have family life and hobbies. Not that it is any of your business.

It's not any of my business unless you put it out there. Then it is free game.

Your problem is that trucking is a one size fits all. Not at Schneider. We have OTR, regional, intermodal, tanker, dedicated, and oil field. Bet your company doesn't have that. That's why we hire drivers is because we are a growing company.

Since you work for Schneider, Maybe you can tell me if this will be an upgrade or not. I will abide by and take a serious look at your suggesting of Schneider being an up grade. I will give you the truth and in return i expect the same. Do we have an accord?

ok, seriously, this is a thread for SNI drivers, if you wanna talk trash about the company, bring it to the right section, we don't want it here.

Besides, how could anyone of us ever land that dream job you have, you haven't hired anyone since 2006! Us sub par scrub drivers have to work somewhere!

Back on topic:
I had a childhood chum worked for SNI for years, never had a problem aside from slow freight now and then, but that's industry wide, cant kick but all the time. I have been off the road too long and will do a refresher and am looking forward to what SNI has to offer. They do a lot in the industry and someone with just a little talent can go far. Maybe down the road I will try tankers, they have that also. Thanks guys for the info
