Yeah I agree. They said they " looked real hard" at it. I bet they didn't ask any drivers. That is the stupidest thing about it.

West Memphis is a mess. They have about 200 trade out trucks taking up half the yard, and another 50-100 trade trailers. The back end is completely blocked off from access.

Unless they are paying a hotel on my resets, how do they expect us to not idle, and keep the truck warm this winter if say its 30 degrees out... battery life = 10 hours MAX so they say..

I'm going to be talking with my DBL tomorrow anyways, I had thought of that earlier today and was planning to ask about it. I've been doing a lot of 34s lately because I was running a lot.

I'm sure one of the answers is going to be that I should try to find someplace outside the truck during the day to spend my time. I don't foresee that happening any time soon. No way am I going to go sit inside a Flying J for 16 hours while not sleeping.

I don't want to make any decisions off of what seems to me to be just hearsay at the moment (of course, I could be missing something official), but this idling thing is just helping me make that final decision to go O/O this winter. I'll probably work as a company driver until near Christmas, then come back on the Choice Program in early March.

not hearsay. Article on crossroads spells out everything everyone has said thus far.

Man, looking for a job this soon. Not how I would have prefered to go about things.

Ah well, needed to be more physically active anyway.
Hmm, for a company that cant seem to keep up with hiring, this seems like the wrong move. Then again, think how much more they will make with all the noobs they will have to hire.

Here's another thought I had while creeping through a construction zone today: if the truck shuts off the elog will automatically kick the driver off of the drive line and onto line 4, where he'll stay until he hits the magic threashold kicking him back onto the drive line. That's going to create a whole bunch of illegal logs.

After my initial hissy fit and subsequent day and a half of seething I finally figured out what bugs me the most about this idle sensor BS. The policy is crap, but logical crap so I understand why the company would do it. What pisses me off so much is it's obivious they haven't thought all the issues thru.

Freeze protect loads: "No, this is an issue and we are continuing to work on a long term solution. Until then, we will work with our customers to limit the transit time. We may need to route these loads through an Operating Center. Each load will need a plan that will be developed with Customer Service and your driver leader." In other words 'Oh crap we didn't think about that'.

Sleep apnea: 'Just keep it under 35 amps and you'll be fine'. Any one using a CPAP is guaranteed to be at the cold weather LVD by morning, figuring 8 hrs of time on the CPAP, 2 hours of light, and 10 hours of running the bunk heater.

34 hour restarts: "If you are away from home, it will be necessary to manage your time both in and outside the tractor. When possible, find one of our operating centers or truck stops." But company policy is to never leave the truck unattended if loaded. 90% of the time if my DOT break exceeds 11 hours it's because the load dictates me sitting and waiting to make delivery (or pickup).

Break down on the side of the road - you may need to add a jump start if you leave the exterior lights on while waiting on SEM/road repair.

The truck will shut off after four minutes no matter what. What's to stop me from restarting the truck every 4 minutes and killing my starter in a matter of weeks?

All this is going into an email for my DBL, will it change anything? No, but it will make me feel a little better.
