also possible ot get hired on with an LTL as a dock worker with the idea of transitioning in to the driver corps. Many do in house training to get your CDL. worth looking into. My money would be on Old Dominion. Seem to have if not the best rep , one of the top reps in the business.

    Dodgerfan82 Thanks this.

Yeah there actually is a OD in our town but finding a position with them is like finding the holy grail... they are supposedly an amazing company to work for.. I guess I will just get my class A and stick out the towing thing for awhile longer.. If I go heavies they will bump my pay to around 20 an hour.. still ###### benefits and a rough life but it is fun putting Swift trucks back on their wheels.. although the hours suck, unlike trucking where at least you know when you will be home or wont be home, in towing and especially heavies you just never know.. you could get home take a shower go to relax and then get a tow from San Diego to Phoenix.. being on call kind of sucks and planning is nearly impossible.. but I will give it a try. I am still going to talk to the union but other then that.. like you guys said OTR is rough on a family, and i need to average at least 800 a week take home.. its rediculas how little you guys get paid. But, honestly.. and I am sure this doesn't apply to any of you. from what i see.. and recover, as a tow truck driver being around heavies, all the accidents and fatalities I have worked.. it is amazing a good percentage of the CDL holders out there ever got a job in the first place..

Just keep checking that OD term. One by me has like 300 doors. Its not listed on their website. Know they are hiring via banners posted on the fence. Were hirung here most of the year. See if you can talk to a driver of the various companies near you too. They have the inside scoop. Good luck at any rate. And stick around here. Sure we'd love to hear some stories!!!!

Sometimes Drivers just piss me off with their whining over little things. There's a guy at Indy complaining about a relay load that he picked up. The previous guy scaled it not once, not twice, but THREE times to get a legal weight. And left the scale tickets.

The guy is ######## because the drives are 3,000 lbs heavier than the trailer with the tandems all the way forward meaing he'll get worse fuel economy and it will "ride like it's got square wheels" unless he slides his 5th wheel forward.

I understand the how and why of this guy's feelings but if he'd just made his adjustments he'd be on the road by now. There are so many other things in the world to complain about (and denigrate other drivers for), why do we waste time and energy on the little things?

And yes I am aware of the irony of me complaining about his complaining.

So I get an email from ATBS services today. It states that my P&L statements are prepared for October and that I am way below average when compared to my peers in profitability. I need to call in to discuss ways to improve my business.

So I go online and pull up my P&L and it appears that they have all my expenses posted that I paid out of pocket but they only show 7500 in revenue for the whole month of October, which probably was 2 short week settlements when I took time off, and no revenue for September at all, with a -656 profit for September. Looks like my days are numbered with this place. Last time I spoke with my rep he sounded like a complete ####### with a bad attitude lecturing me about Walmart receipts

Those guys are friggin worthless. Thier website takes forever to update anything. And they charge $75 a month to do what, the same thing I can do with 5 minutes and an excel spreadsheet? LOL. I'll spend money to have a real accountant prep my taxes other than that I don't need to be told by someone else how my business is doing. They keep calling me now (over 6 months since I stopped using them) leaving messages on my phone begging me to come back. You know they must be desperate for customers, everyone is leaving because they friggin suck.

EXACTLY what I told my rep......gonna get off the monthly plan at the first of the year and just have them do my taxes.......$525. A little pricy, but they have access to a lot of stuff from Schneider a local CPA wouldn't have......and a local CPA would probably charge $300 - $400 anyway.....soooooo

How hard is it to realistically do our own taxes? I cant be that much more difficult than personal taxes can it?
