Schneider charges or refunds your IFTA tax monthly.... The last paycheck of the month you take care of the IFTA for the month prior... So on Oct 31st we settled up for Sept IFTA taxes... I paid $145 and I use the method stated above - fuel price minus IFTA tax to find the cheapest fuel..... This is if course assuming you use the fuel card they give you.... Schneider keeps track of where you run and what you owe....

It's all part of the challenge small business owners have. Where one puts ones attention depends on the business plan. Recognizing, understanding, and controlling the variables is key to success.

Sadwar, thanks for the post. It looks like you're about 2 hrs east of me. Do you run NE regional or national OTR? Any problems routing yourself home? When you go back out how far are you dh'ing for the 1st load? Albany, Binghamton, farther?

It's not that cut and dry. You also spend more on insurance. But you also spend less on fuel, and should have less down time for repairs. I'm sure there's a few more factors to consider, like a tax advantage.

I'm not spending that much more on insurance to be exact it's only an additional hundred and fifty three dollars a month for me to ensure the new truck over what I was paying on the older one when I had all the buyback some things in place which I didn't take out this time.

not all about the warranty is also about depreciation and if you know about running a business you have to have a depreciable asset in order to stay viable .

some folks believe by the old standard that if you've got a truck that ain't broken its paid off run it. But if you look at it from a depreciable asset you must upgrade or a older truck will sink you .

some like to fly off the cuff and keep the other drugs and believe that emissions are the Antichrist when actually the one true thing that you can count on daily as a business owner is change. If you cannot adapt to the changing standards in our industry then you become one track andcan falter buy your own beliefs older is not always better despite what others may think a warranty is actually worth its weight in gold and it also helps to relinquish the burden of costly and sometimes catastrophic can put a 1 truck owner operator out of business with just a stroke of a pen or a rod going to the side of the block.

each person has a right to their own opinion and can run their business in which the way they desire however if you're not willing to adapt just how long are you able 2 stay ahead of the curve and stay profitable because at the end of the day older truck will cost you more money in the long run despite what some may think
