I use fuel gauges also. Does he job well, simple to use. I like how you can see 30, 60, 90 and life time averages.
mattbnr Thanks this. -
I did the Prime lease 4 years ago. I have to pay for the refer fuel, I had to pay a penalty fee of .11/per mile after you drive so many miles. I worked for 6 weeks with them I averaged $500-$550 net. I never turned a load down, I took everything that my load coordinator gave me. One thing that I did not like about the LC is if they are off for vacation they pass you on to another LC and they may or may not care about you as much as you LC did and you get the shaft. Prime will nickel and dime you to death.
I have research this thread and others as well. I will tell you I was looking at JCT and Schneider, I choose SNI because I dispatch myself. JCT they dispatch you but you pay/mile for the truck. You still do not have the choice to dispatch yourself, you may be able to choose your loads, not sure. I would rather dispatch myself then someone else because if I fail or succeed, it is all on me. For me, that is true O/O, the difference is you have the backing of SNI large discounts. One other thing...I HATE pulling reefer and having to deal with grocery warehouse. -

OK, Jar-Head followers. I want input to help me resolve my dilemma.
First, a bit about me. I am retired and on Social Security. Truck driving has been a 'bucket list' item for me and has been enjoyable for the past few years. I have probably 3-4 more years to work - I have a pretty large tax liability and grad school student loans to pay off - and I love challenging situations. I never seriously considered owning a truck before finding and following this thread; I don't have a long career in front of me or any career development to accomplish, so ending up with a truck to sell just didn't seem like something I wanted to do.
But after reading these posts and considering the challenge of being as close to my own boss as possible without owning a truck company, working for the Choice program seems like the kind of challenge that might fit. I could go where the big money and funny accents live or where the wide open spaces are or where the People Who Live On Freeways live. Or even get to Lawton more often, where the grandchildren live!
The dilemma and where I want your input is this: Is 3 years enough to get out of this what I will have to put in? Of course, I would hope for a 3-year lease but that depends on the application, which I'm not prepared to submit yet. This isn't a forum where I'm going to get a lot of the lease haters - I don't pay them any attention, anyway, but they are an unnecessary distraction - and trust the 'regulars' and 'visitors' thoughts.
So what do you think?
