Haha. I was saying the same thing the other day. My boss at my last job and one of my best friends both said "how can you make an 800 a week payment, and still make a living". I said "because my only other option will be failure".

In a nutshell here it is .

You can buy a new truck with no money down ( Freightliner ) but when you look at it from a normal dealership transaction the buyer would normally have either CASH or TRADE ( equity) to put into the deal. The payment that SNF offers is based off a 1-3 yr term with a BALLOON at the end . Your not going to payoff a 120-150k piece of equipment in 3 years unless your paying 4000 a month it's just not possible . The balloon is able to be financed at the end or you WALK and UPGRADE .. The premise is to keep you under warranty and SNF has deals with the makers to BUY BACK the units after a 3yr term with a presumed retail value in the resale market .

    Why ?

Because most who go into business without the capital to substain themselves need the protection of the warranty its a good thing not a bad thing .. Throw a rod through the block with no warranty 75% of people would be DONE .. It's a huge bill . Have to replace a set of injectors @ 2400 plus labor , 40-50% could not do that with cash flow . So the aspect of keeping the truck under warranty is the most viable option . It makes the most since . You can run around like most owner opps and stress about not having the money to do repairs or FOCUS ON TRUCKING because you have a warranty .

That 800 or 900 is not the truck note ... It has $135.00 built into it for MAINT Fund . If you opt to not do the MAINT fund you can do so . But remember if you do you are paying for TIRES , BRAKES , Lights , Services out of your pocket . ( non warranty items )

the deals offered by SNF are on par with a 5-5.5 yr note in a dealer setting . You have to remember that your getting a new or almost new truck to start out your business with .

How come you're looking at getting a new truck JH? Seems to me that you've got a good truck that gets great MPG and is or is almost paid off and still has plenty of life left in it. I don't care how fancy a new truck is, it's not gonna be more comfortable than sitting at home enjoying all the time off you can take with that paid off truck you've already got!

If you do decide to get a new truck what are your reasons for going through SFI vs. a dealer or getting a loan from the bank? Do you think you might want to just straight up lease and keep turning in the truck and getting a new one when the warranty expires?

Jarhead, your right. Anyone that says SFI is a rip off probably failed math in school. It is very fair. The main thing is to know what's good for you and be aware of what you are getting into. That you have down.

upgrade has been on my mind a while , and wanting to spec something for myself to my own specs . With the money and trade I will put down my payment will not be much more than im paying now . I think that right now it makes since for me to go forward but I'm still on the fence like you say because of home time , etc . I am also working with my dealer who is currently looking for a unit with my specs as well . And I could go through the finance option on the upgrade as well @ around 10-11% on a used unit on a 60 mth term .

Im not dead set on SNF yet but it is an option im looking at

This is an older quote but worth repeating because I see so much confusion on threads all over.

I drove for a regional carrier that paid percentage and not once did I care about whether I was driving 20 miles to a downtown store or 300 miles to a DC. To this day, I have no idea how many miles I drove for them nor could I figure it out. And it wouldn't matter. It was the value of what was in the back that counted. On our QC loads, there was a block on the bottom with the company's computed value. My pay was a percentage of that. The best load I ever carried was a $75,000 value load that I took about 200 miles.

My pay for that ONE load was more than most drivers made in months of driving...just under $18,000! Yeah. Thousand.

Needless to say, my bank account was very happy that week. To be truthful, it was unusual for us to carry high-value loads, especially that high, but they did happen. Don't discount companies that pay percentage, whether company or contractor.

my point was to point out that is a fair deal VS dealer financing . If I were to buy the exact same unit at a dealer my payment would be around 200-300 less a month TOPS maybe less . The only benefit is one monthly payment to the bank vs weekly payments . Otherwise the deal is basically the same
