I think the dollar tree account is out of tri-cities and I think they are looking for someone from that area to run on it. That says something right there.

The other indication that should worry you is they have been running that add for the dollar tree account for 4+ years with about $7,000- $8,0000 sign on bonus. It appears it is either a bait and switch scenario or they can't keep meat in the seat.

That account also used to belong to Swift. Swift couldn't make a go of it and it was picked up by Schneider.

I ran that account for 4 years, earned a bulging disc from all the hand unloading. The average load is anywhere from 34,000 to 49,000lbs of freight, all hand unloaded. No hand trucks, no pallet jacks. You'll keep warm in the trailer, even on -18ºF days in Montana.

Steve, the account manager, is a great guy. If you aren't a whiny bum, then you'll get the same route every week, and the same days off. For four years I had every Friday off, delivered in Billings on Monday and the Seattle area on Thursdays. The guys helping him in the office are awesome too. But if you are a pain in the rear to work with, then he'll run you ragged, unloading 4-6 trailers a week and no consistent home time.

If it wasn't for the bulging disc, I would have gladly continued to work for Steve, and when I'm in Portland late this summer I'll go visit him at the DC in Ridgefield, WA. I made about $54k there, but that was several years ago and I've heard that the account has had raises since.

Now I work in the entertainment biz and rarely drive.

I did this account with Swift. Be prepared for crappy rollers that are seized up or twisted and the cargo you slide on them falls off and bursts carbonated beverages all over you or worse laundry detergent. Minimum wage workers helping you unload at a snails pace which will take hours. I did this account in Texas when the trailer got so hot you could cook an egg on the roof. When you open your doors be prepared to catch hundreds of boxes with your mouth lol.

There's a reason these accounts are always hiring. You make much better money doing less

Also those creepy store workers complaining, "The other drivers don't have any problem backing in here." It's all BS and that's why they advertise year round for drivers on those accounts.

Swift had one driver who had two or three power line incidents trying to get into some of those stores and still was on the account bragging about it lol.

I ripped down power lines maybe 3 times in my career. Usually the power lines aren't the correct height for codes, so nothing happens to the driver.
When I pulled flatbeds, we had a female driver that thought the load was over height. She decided to dodge the scales and took a service road and actually yanked down a few electric meters off houses. She didn't get caught, which was pure luck. Terminal manager was sweating bullets though.
