I am currently in trucking school and am considering which companies to look into for employment after my graduation. I am a veteran of the Army and interested in doing the Schneider military apprenticeship program... anyone have any experience with this program, and thought on Schneider in general? Thank you for any replies...

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Stay in the service if you can. Jobs are hard to come by in most industries. If I could go back in time to 2003, I would have stayed in the Navy. If you are E-5 or above it would be better to stay in the service if you can.

There are 4 VA approved apprenticeship companies that I know of, Schneider, Conway, Werner, and Watkins. Schneider specifically has a Veterans Dept to talk to, and you need to speak to them directly. You also need to have the VA onboard. If you are approved, the VA will supplement your first year of salary with graduated payments of up to $1000.00 a month. This would be extremely helpful in breaking in to OTR, but don't let it give you false confidence in your income as the money will end.
If you are going to a GI Bill approved school they will pay a percentage of school, books and BAH also.

I ended up working at DOT Foods and am extremely happy. Research them and see if you live close enough to a DC. I am home multiple days weekly out of the California DC.

The "apprentice " programs require a one year obligation and payments reduce throughout the year.
You could make over $1,000 a month more with a better paying carrier and not waste your benefits.

Ask Schneider about their tanker division. If you can start out with tankers, you can always have a good paying trucking job. A few veterans that post on here went with Schneider tanker.
