This post is for all the young, new, inexperienced Drivers and wanna be Drivers. A few indisputable facts about this career path. If you look at the statistics the average truck driver lives till 60, the average non truck driver 72. The difference ? To much sitting for extended periods of time, and eating all the wrong food. You look at what the have at the truckstop, sugar drinks, fat and salt and deep fried too. Yes it taste yummy, is not expensive and can be eaten behind the wheel.
Now some good news. In the next 7 years 40% of the drivers on the road today.........will be off the road. How is this good news ? Well if you are newbie driver, guess what ? Driver pay is going to rise, simple Supply & Demand statistics. So get a CDL, drive straight, no speeding, or reckless driving tickets. Do not use drugs PERIOD ! No excessive drinking. If you really want to be in demand get it all, doubles triples, tank, hazmat, TWIX.
Why are 40% of the drivers going to be off the road in 7 years? Because they are over 55, and retirement, poor health, and death, shall sweep us into the dust bin of history. Look at my profile I have been at it for a long time, but my time is short. After the doctor report I received yesterday, and the invasive procedures I am about to endure...............I may be gone already.
You young guys can do it all, don't let someone hold you back cause if you ain't Oilfield you ain't Sh##. We were all inexperienced once. With shiny new boots you can do it to. Cya in the Patch

I can handle a tanker in the patch (not in city-delivery) so like maybe I should look for bobtail in the patch or what (?) as the only "option" is go to "OTR School" then to 1-3 years OTR to get DOT documentation and like I do not want to sit in a class and go OTR if there is some weasel-way or straight-way that I can go directly to driving a tanker in Shale ..... -
I don't think you'd run into the 2-3 years experience requirements out here in the Permian, at least not as much. Did you hear back from Key? They're running radio ads here that say they're hiring drivers at all Permian Basin yards. They don't mention anything about experience needed. -
at 7:30 - 8:00 P.M. that day county told me I had to leave, I was still parked at the gate of the lease ......
person is so hard to understand on the phone that I all but abandoned hope just there and spent the next day trying anyway, interviewed at one place as helper on oilfield specialized services but not enough to survive on then on the way home interviewed at J.M. who was the one who gave me best "direct and dont waste my time" information of any and all of them yet so I did not respond to Pinnergy who had called right after Gonzales Municipal said I could not stand beside the road with a sign without Solicitation Permit from City Hall ...... I gave up at 6:00-7:00 + drove back
I can go fill the online for Key but if I get called then I do not have resources to go all the way to Permian and when I get there it is very, very likely that by "experience" what they actually should be saying is as posted earlier here by me .... and if I get there busted for S.I.P.P.
I tried the Giddings online listing for Key ~ it stated one-year experience "Minimum of one (1) year experience operating a diesel truck in a DOT-regulated environment" I have already informed sponsors that I have to target doing 1-3 O.T.R. with FFE then try to get on in the patch somewhere, inclusive of trying places like Gila & seeing if there is some yard position I could handle that would find me a place to park the camper shell because of needing help so badLast edited: Sep 12, 2012

I think you may be right on that driver--- on the driver shortage,,,,,, aslo a lot of long haul is going to be reduced from the West Coast going East as a result of the Widening of the Panama Canal witch is due for completion in 2014 currently ships with 5000 containers or less can go through but when completed ships with 12500 will go through ,this will reduce imports to West coast docks in the shipping they are currently making ports on the East deeper to allow these ships to dock,I am sure there will still be long haul but reduced ,getting a load from the West coming back East has been more complicated more than East to West theres more freight moving from the East coast going Wes
