Wow! So one whole week on the road with a trainer and another student and there actually going to cut you loose? Unfreakin real....I train at another company and our students stay with us a MINIMUM of 12 weeks, some stay on the truck 24 weeks. How can you possibly be ready in the middle of Winter to be on your own? Shame on Big Orange for putting you in that position. I hate more Govt. regulations, but maybe the FMCSA does need to mandate training guidelines..

I talked to quite a few new drivers that trained with SNI and a majority of them felt ready after their training. You do spend the first week at the yard and get some behind the wheel time, the second week is OTR, and there is NO team driving. I originally was questioning whether that was enough time, but the general consensus seems to be that for the most part it is. I think you will start seeing more of this as most people can't afford to be out training at minimum wage for 3-6 months...

EDIT: I should add that according to one driver, if you are clearly not ready they will keep you out, you are not forced to test out if you are not ready.

I understand your point, but go over a mountain pass in the dead of Winter and then tell me how ready you are after a week of training. My current student has experienced mountain driving in snow, torrential rain and wind, and dense fog. What did the original poster experience in his 1 Week limited training? I don't want to hijack this thread.... Just wanted to state my opinion. I wish the original poster the best of luck, be safe and be patient.

Be careful out there. I was recently in the Portland OC and the surrounding areas are very windy with straight drops.

How is that intermodal job going for you? I am in the interviewing process right now. I am kinda skeptical about schneider though. I havent heard too many good things about them and the equipment Ive seen on the road has been not soo good. Really old at times. I am interviewing for the intermodal local position in Houston Tx I have a phone interview tomm. Whats it like over at the big orange?

They give all new solo drivers the old trucks. So if you don't like old, look elsewhere.

Well that's the way it should be.... They only train there drivers for a week I'm sure they expect them to tear up the equipment. Better to tear up an old ragged out freightliner then a brand new cascadia.

I am with you on this runningman. Superior Carriers had me with a trainer for 3-4 months. We are a little different though. There is only one bed in the truck so when OTR I stayed in hotels. The truck was never run as a team operation. Trainer was always in the jump seat logged on line 4. Even with that I would have liked to have had more winter weather driving. Tankers are different though. We shut down when the weather gets nasty and are paid to do so. Most of my training was done running local out and back stuff or preloading trailers.
