It depends on where/when you are and what's available. It could be white, black or orange, most likely a Freight-shaker. In the end as long as you a get a truck that is in good mechanical condition who cares what color or kind of truck it is. I wish my truck looked nicer and wasn't banged up by the previous drivers, but she runs good and has for the most part stayed out of the shop and kept me out on the road. My truck may not be the prettiest or the biggest, but she works.
-
Do you drive for schneider?
-
Yep I drive for Schneider, 11 western
-
I started as a Nashville regional driver. At the time I started, my DBL (freight manager/dispatcher) was out of West Memphis. Now they are located in Lebanon working out of offices at the Pilot.
My truck was a 2003 orange Century with 809,000 mile on it. It ran okay and I had little problems, but realistically, it was what I expected to get. If I owned a company, I would not give a new, unproven driver a new truck to run, but that is me.
It is possible that you would get a black or white one, but it is highly unlikely. If you keep your expectations low, you wont be too disappointed.
I don't do the regional now. I am on a team-dedicated account.
If this is your first driving job, be prepared for a steep learning curve. The first couple of weeks is a bit stressful, but if you hang in there and keep your calm, it gets better. This is not because of Schneider, they do everything they can to arm you for being on your own. It is just part learning any new position. Be sure to learn your macros and keep them sent properly and on time.
After you have been in your assigned truck two days, you will have so many other things to be focused on that you won't care what color the truck is. Oh, and the black is terribly hot in the summer, they look good from outside of the truck, but inside, you will be roasting. -
Thanks for the info. I start orientation for Nashville regional on March 26. Can u tell me alittle more about regional driving? How many miles did u get? Where did u run the most? Did u get home every weekend like they say? Im a new driver and dont know much about regional driving.
-
And how long were u at home on the weekends? Both saturday and sunday or just 34 hours and then right back out again?
-
For me, I averaged about 2300 miles until I changed to another account. I took two days at home, but you can only stay home 34 if you choose, or stay out for longer if you choose. My first week I was sent up into Wisconsin, which is a little out of the regional area if you ask me. Mostly I went to Chicago a lot and stayed in Georgia and Alabama a lot. But it may be different for you. I can only talk about my experience.
I did get left out once to do a 34, but that was more the fault of my DBL. You will have a different DBL, and maybe they will do better. My ex-DBL is still in West Memphis, and the Nashville regional DBL's are already in place working out of Lebanon.
Other than that time, I was home every weekend. The DBL I had was responsible for too many drivers on his board and flat did not give a crap from his attitude, but the DBL's I met that were moving to Nashville and work seemed ok. I think you will be fine. -
Thanks for the info its helped alot!! I think i will enjoy the 2 days off every week. I jus didnt kno if they let u take 2 days or made u jus take 34. Thanks again for all the info.

Can a regional driver actually make pretty good money? I know all the runs are short hauls but will you get enough loads to add up at the end of the week?
