Hello. I am considering going to Schneider as a "driver graduate". I was talking to a recruiter about the regional job and he said that they keep you within a 500 mile radius of Des Moines, IA. This seemed a little unrealistic to me as I expected to be running the whole midwest in a regional job. Anyone know if this is accurate?

Bonus question: I am aware that Schneider does not have APU's or anything like that to cool you down in the cab without idling. I know that half of the Country has idling laws in place. Has anyone ever been ticketed for idling? Could you give me details?

I'll address this question from the limited scope I have. I'm a Schneider driver, but OTR, not regional. Never been ticketed for idling.

As far as regional...every company I've ever encountered with a "regional" operation uses that term quite loosely. I love the "southeast" regional runs for some companies....they include PA! Heck, I've run the Finger Lakes region of NY state in a SE regional set-up! Go figure.

The 500-mile radius is (I'm guessing) more of a guideline than a hard-and-fast rule. Again, though...this is only my opinion based upon my personal experiences and conversations over the years.

    I wish you well!

That's good that you haven't been ticketed for idling. I know I have tried sleeping in a car and that's impossible for me without the a/c if its 70 or above. It just gets too dang humid and uncomfortable. If I can get away with idling above those temps, I am more likely to go with Schneider. Right now, I am looking into TransAm and they have refrigerators and APUs and don't run NYC or California. All of that is really tempting. Thanks for the input, it was very valuable.

If you go with SNI, you can loss you bonus for over iding (it's a % thing of total hours vice outside temp), as for getting a ticket, it would not matter which company you are driving for, if they don't have an APU, it would just depends if the local LE wants to give you a ticket or not.

For myself, when I was a company SNI driver, I didn't worry that much about getting the bonus. When I was a TE, I wanted my trainee to be as rested as he could. And as an IC, I had an APU installed. :biggrin_2559:
