29CPM? That surprised me because I thought their starting pay was 37CPM.
Perhaps that is just the rate for your training the first month or so?

For new drivers just out of school like me, 29 cpm to start, 31 cpm after 3 months, 34 cpm after 6 months and 37 cpm after 1 year.

    Awful.

I'm very curious to know which companies you are favoring, and your reasoning. It looks like your research is sound

youngclarkh, I had job offers from Covenant, Crete, Knight, Maverick, Melton, Roehl, TMC, Tyson and Schneider. I made a spreadsheet so that I could easily compare the companies to each other regarding the factors that were important to me such as company specifics (history, age, size, stability, debt, earnings, values, etc.); equipment (type, maintenance, etc); orientation & training process; pay (orientation, training, cpm progression, performance bonus, holiday pay, sign-on bonus, tuition reimbursement, driver referrals, etc.); benefits (insurance, retirement, vacation, etc.); mileage (average mileage per week or month, stability/fluctuation of mileage, etc.); stability of customer base (private fleet such as Tyson versus for hire trucking companies); and CSA scores. I also visited truck stops and talked with drivers for each company as well as read a lot of internet forum posts regarding truck drivers' experiences with each company. There's no perfect company or driving position. They all have pros and cons. Each person has to decide which company will be the best fit for his/her personal situation. For me, Tyson ended up being the best fit so I accepted Tyson's offer of employment and will begin orientation/training in Springdale, AR on July 21.

You have an interesting story...Attorney to trucker. I am an Engineer 28 years and also am tired of the desk job and office politics. I'm getting out but people think I am insane giving up my current salary to go on the road. I told my wife if I continued raking in the money as an engineer she would soon find herself as a widow. She finally understood.

You know... you cant just go by CPM.... I technically was paid a nigher CPM with the small company I was with... but, may weekly pay was much lower than what I am making now....
Now, I am on a dedicated account, I get .34 cpm plus various accessorie pay... I acually average between .41CPM to ? 48CPM.... I have only been on this accounta month and still learning and getting it all down.. so, my first couple weeks I only made .41CPM to .43CPM... but, I have learned a few tricks and tbis last week I got .48CPM... I had a cohple hiccups that I believe I can resolve and so far this week I am on track to make .51CPM...

As for trucks being governed... mine is governed at 65mph... which works fine for me... I have been in ungoverned trucks, but it didnt mean I got more miles, or even got anywhere faster... I think it must be very difficult and exhausting to drive a truck above 65mph... cause, those ungoverned trucks are always pulling into rest areas and truck stops... so the same dang ungoverned truck will pass me over and over.... monday, I left the DC with one of two loads goi g to Mitchell SD... the other load was taken by a driver who drives for an O/O... he left about 15 minutes before me.. but I got to the yard just over a half hour before him... which was good for me, causeif he had made it there before me.. I wojld have had to wait for him to be unloaded.. but I got right in..

As for APUs... on this dedicated I am home everynight so it isnt an issue... when I was OTR it would of been nice to nave, but not a deal breaker for me...

For me... I want to be kept running... I do not want to wait around for a load... so for me, I want good equiptment and to be kept running... and able to make good money..
