Hmm....I went to Roadmasters Trucking School then joined up with Werner Enterprises, worked for them 2+ years, before leaving I got my 250,000 accident free miles award, and about pay, I started with the North East Region run (took home between 300-400 a week), then did reefer, was on the Perdue (chicken and turkey) account, and took home $1000 a week, then became a trainer, and took home a little more ran 48 states, then transferred to the I-5 lane, and took home as a solo driver around $700 per week. I heard lots of bad stories about Werner, but I really didnt have any problems, got a brand new truck every 5-6 months. I think Werner is a good training company. I left Werner and joined Schneider which I'm now an IC on the choice program, and I love it. -

You might look at Knight Transportation as another option. They have a terminal in Ontario. If you get hired driving for the Refrigerated Division, you may be able to run 11 western states. There's no guarantee, of course, but it may be with asking about. I was able to make 43k my first year, but I ran 48 states. Longer runs usually equal more money. Good luck!

Does Schneider still have their training academy?

Put in your year and then go to foodservice. The money is good..60-80k...plus you get a LOT more home time and a good workout each day! I love it, but I know it's not for everyone. Best of luck driver.

find a local company to get on with, and dont leave your wife and young kids at home.. I got on with con-way freight three weeks after my separation from the corps...local companies hire without experience. Might be long or fluctuating hours.

Also, is anyone on the schneider dedicated route for Nissan? It says that they are hiring experienced and inexperienced students fresh out of trucking school. It states that you will be home weekly and make 60k/year. How much of this is true? It is out of Compton, so I figure it will be hard as hell for a newb to navigate through those tight LA streets. -
MBM in Columbus just dropped their experience from 1 year to 9 months. I just left there and now drive with Sysco, I am not sure what their requirements are.
