To be very honest, getting on this account was my first driving job. Going IC after only 6 months was a leap of faith, and probably a stupid one, but knowing that my miles were as close to guaranteed as I could hope for every week helped. I was 36 at the time, and have run a few other small businesses for myself, so that helped, too. I have some mechanical knowledge under my belt, also a plus as I don't have to run to the shop for every issue that arises. What I didn't do, however, was go all googly-eyed to Schneider and ask for a brand new truck with a 2600/month payment. I bought a used truck from outside and brought it in. That said, my buddy DID get a brand new KW from Schneider, and he's on this account as well, and he's doing all right, too.

I did the skid pad to.You did the course with a car, bobtail, and a tractor trailer, that was chained so when you jackknifed you didn't hit the trailer. It was a valuable experience. The training in Green Bay back then was good.Better than what I paid for

Too bad they don't do it any more. I went from zero to hero for free. They covered everything from free CDL training to free meals to free lodging. You didn't have to sign a contract.

I'm good on going to Gary. Last time I went there I could smell it twenty miles out of town. Also I don't like being shot and stabbed so I avoid Gary at all costs. -
I talked to a recruiter today. I was surprised when they said it was 3 weeks training then on my own. If I go with them I will be going to Dallas for 18 days. I will have my CDL in a week. Did it on my own with out school. A little concerned about the short training. They also said they had a regional route that would put me home weekly.

For me it was Friday to Friday with a combination of half class half driving. Then up to ten days with a trainer. If your driving is not at a certain level after the first week they hold you back before sending you out with a trainer. Then the trainer will not release you until he or she feels your safe
TruckerBri and Mictrucking Thank this. -
It really depends on how comfortable you feel driving, and how good your trainer is...they do turn some guys loose too early IMO.
For getting started you can do worse than the pumpkin. -
I've been with Schneider for almost for months. Training was awesome, trainers were respectful and treated me like an adult, my tractor is a 2012-Freightliner cascadia, I've only had one issue with it so far coolant took maintenance a couple hrs to fix. Only thing I don't like about Schneider right now is the pay on the regional account, it sucks bad...

You going to hang in there or find something better?
Are you making less than $500 weekly?
