I'm sorry about that! Southern Cal Transport. They have a lot of freight from the L.A. area back to FL. And with us packing our house up it won't be a problem with us getting back to Vegas. I have a daughter living over by Hesperia, CA. and my mother living twenty miles north of Jacksonville, FL. So this company accepted us knowing it's no big deal getting home. We will just visit family members for our home time.
This way, we can save our money and purchase with cash (hopefully) our own home. My wife and I are both in our 50's and we are not getting any younger. That's our plan, now we have to make it work. She's nervous as she has no trucking experience at all. Except bouncing around in a water truck at KB Homes job sites. Oh yeah, I let her dump a load of dirt once. Scared the crap out of her when the trailer was up in the air and I told her to release the hand break. The look on her face as the trailer pushed away from the load.
FUNNY!
Anyway I will be around at least another week as travel arrangements are being made. Orentation is on Monday's & Wednesday's -

Thanks!! Very Much. As far as the desert goes ummmmmmm! I was born in N.Y.C. lived one block from the ocean in Asbury Park, N.J. and lived in Indiana for a bit. Just got use to the heat. Really love northern Cal. It's just where life took me.

I don't have any information about Schneider in Arizona, but maybe some general info might help. I just called them about trying to get a job driving for them, and I'm in Minnesota. The recruiter told me that they haven't been hiring in my state for the last couple of months. I asked how long these "hiring freezes" usually last in a particular area and she couldn't predict anything, but she said I should try calling her back in a month. Maybe they don't stay out of a market too long.
If it has been a while since the original poster called in AZ, it might be worth a try again. Good luck! -
I am in California and I have seen at least 10 Schneider trucks in the last week alone that have the phone number spray painted out on the back of their trailers............. ya know that sign that says "We hire singles/teams, good pay, blah.. blah... blah...."...... I was wondering if they changed their phone number or they just got tired of answering the same questions day, after day, after day, after day ???

Probably done by disgruntled former employees turned taggers.

Or current employees who want job security.

When I talked with Sni about a month ago they would only take a student who would agree to team drive. This was a sign to me they were cutting back. I told a friend of mine I was thinking seriously about get'n into Truck drive'n and said thats funny a friend of mine was thinking about the same thing; this a bad sign. Then another friend has a friend that is a truck driving instructor who said the school can't get their students jobs, this was about a month ago. He just re-stated the samething yesterday. A nieghbor across the street said said the guy next door has been sitting for a week waiting for a load, O/O. Now your saying that the Sni recuriting phone number is painted out on their trucks. I'll look at the Sni trucks at the t/a truck stop here and I'll try and get some info from the drivers.
The way I see it we could be in the deepest of "gin-che". Buckle Up we are in for riiiiiiiide.
The jobs report was bad, unemployment went from 5 to 5.5 % the biggest jump in 20 yrs. And the airlines have yet to layoff.Last edited: Jun 6, 2008
