I have been looking into several companies for a few months. I have weighted the pros and cons of them. I believe I will try Schneider. The one question I have is. Their trucks you can not idle and don't have the generators so how do you stay cool at night?

Air coolers can get $$
APC can get $$
But doesn't a good night sleep make it worth it? I've never tried it, but figured this as something that might work. Btw, there are some APCs that are low volt and are able to work in trucks. I'm not suggesting high end. -
As a current Schneider driver I will tell you that you are allowed to idle if you want to. You are allowed a certain percentage of idle time, if you go over it then you won't get your quarterly bonus, which is determined on a number of things (over speed, idle time, over route mileage, paperwork/macros being sent in on time, ect). I personally only idle when I have too. In the cold I hardly ever idle, I have a sleeping bag and blanket that keep me really warm at night. Now when it's hot though, I idle. I can not get comfortable in a hot truck. Even though I don't get the idle bonus, I'd rather be able to sleep in a cool truck on a hot day and be refreshed when I wake up to drive the next day.
TruckerGsch and R.Rodriguez Thank this. -

If you see a Schnieder truck with an APU it is an Owner Operator truck.

I heard from a fellow Schneider driver that he saw a new Cascadia having an APU being installed at one of the yards. I asked him if it was an IC and he said no, that it was an orange cascadia with the full schneider graphics on it. Might be a trial unit, or it might be a legit "new trucks will have APU's installed" kind of thing. Only question is what kind of APU is it. I know some of the IC's Schneider finance bought trucks that came with APU's are the battery operated ones that run off of 4-8 deep cycle batteries, which is fine and dandy as long as you're able to drive your truck for the 8 hours each day it takes to recharge them.
