    the issue was reported to the social security administration, Equifax,trans union,and Experian. I set up a fraud alert on the accounts,also cancelled the cards and the checks.

    The point of the post is to alert people that that particular tow company is extremely unprofessional and should not be used if you have an option,although if you are pulled over I guess you don't have a choice. The situation in general is a good example of why you pay attention to what you leave in your car.

    NOBODY has any business going through peoples' automobiles without a search warrant, and even then they are only limited to the items listed on said warrant.

    If the automobile was in the custody of this towing company when this alleged incident took place, and there is a subsequent attempt at ID theft via the appearance of new credit card accounts or anything of that nature, I'm sure the FBI would be very interested in hearing about it. Anything crossing a state line falls under federal juridiction.

    If the driver is being arrested, like in this case, a search warrant is not needed. That doesn't give the tow yard permission to go through the vehicle. The OP shouldn't let this go.

    Why are you being so hard on yourself? If two scumbags tried to rob you, you had every right to defend yourself. What happened to you afterwards was a travesty of justice and you did not deserve any of it. That area of Indy is a rough black area and you have to be very carefull there like the Gary IN truck stop.


    Anyways all towing companies are scum and not much better than the criminals on the street that would steal your car and demand a ransom to get it back. In fact they are worse because they have the blessing of the police to commit their thefts. Nighwind if you end up a victim of identity theft you should seriously consider sueing these lowlives.
