Food service won't keep you away from home for weeks. But it is a lot of work. You would need to decide if being home every day is worth the ton of work moving boxes by hand truck.
School, or trained by first job?

About Robertson: at least some OTR/regional carriers will not hire you -- if all you had before is local area driving experience.
Conversely -- you can indeed get a local-only job with OTR/regional experience.
And yes -- food service delivery is still class A work, most of the time.
-- LFullMetalJacket, Rideandrepair and DexterSaintJock Thank this. -
yeah I ultimately want to do regional or local in the future so yes I prob should do OTR for a while. 6 months? Or is it better to do 1 year or 18 months? The longer the better, right? -
Robertson = class A (unless they have some straight trucks as well -- those are class B).
A helpful tip: in hindsight -- I am VERY GRATEFUL that I chose a carrier, & got some real experience -- BEFORE I knew everything about everything CDL-related.
If you never ask another question here -- you already have far more info to make an informed decision -- than I did, when I first started CDL driving.
And yet....somehow....by all miracle of miracles....I'm still here, and I survived.
You can, too. If you think you can.
-- LSons Hero, FullMetalJacket, tscottme and 3 others Thank this. -
