For that pay you'd be better off collecting cans full time.

The instructor at my school said to try and stay away from Werner. He also said to stay away from KLLM since they seem to only want lease operators now. Mine told me Swift, US Xpress and Total Transport were good starting companies straight out of school.

Come on people!!! All the starter companys are basicly the same. You can pick any starter company and review all the posts on here and you will basicly come up with the same comments. You need these companys to get going OTR and you will get very little pay to do it. From $300 to $600 a week. You will have to spend x number of weeks with a trainer that you had better hope likes to shower. Every company out there has older trucks you will start with and yes you will have break downs! After time you will see that your miles will be low for some weeks and then you will have a few good weeks.
ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!!!!!!! If you like driving and your family (if you have one ) is use to you being gone for weeks and you can deal with the pay, then just pick a color and stick with it for at least 1 year. Then after you have a good clean driving history you can begin to move up to better paying and more local companys. YOU HAVE TO DO THE TIME TO GET WHAT YOU WANT! Every job has a price to pay before you get to the reward! Truckers are a special breed and unless you have driven OTR for some time or at least tried it you wont understand what I mean! Good luck to you all, I respect you for keeping this world supplied with the products you haul!!!

Thinking like that is what puts newbies at places like CRE.:biggrin_2554: There is a lot of difference in starter companies if you look around. The russian roulette approach is liable to leave a hole in the head....:biggrin_2556:

I did alot of research before i started, werner= .26 a mile it goes up from there thrue swift, conway, stevens, us, marten, gorden, ect. all the way to tmc at percentage and boyd at .36 to maverick glass at .40. that don't tell you everything YOU need to look before you sign on. All of these companys have websites, this website has a ton of info. Personaly I sat through a werner recruitment presentation and I would rather have my balls mangled in farm machinery than work for them from the stuff I have heard first hand. Do the work, theres good companys to start with that will train you well and treat you decent, and pay you good.

My top 5 list as follows, not in order. Maverick, Rohle, Boyd, Conway truckload, Luckey, The first four are large companys, Maverick has flats, glass and refridgerated, Rohle does just about everything, Boyde is flats and Conway truckload is vans. All take new drivers and train and then pay well. I went with Luckey for a few reasons, their in Streator, IL. and that is close to whrer I live. I met the owner personely, was hired by him ect. That fit best for me, maybe not the best fit for you.
And theres more good companys, Martin, Us express, BTC, WEL companys, Watkins/Shepard, the list goes on. Like I said DO THE WORK! use the internet, make phone calls, go to the truck stops and talk to drivers, once agian every company has a website, some have more info, some less. Use this site, don't just use the bad, good reveiw areas look up specfific motor carriers and see whats said. And heres an example of job that did not work for me. Schneider was hireing for tankers, time with trainer, then .32 a mile when I get in my own truck. But, I had to drive an hour to get to the yard, leave my car there, out for two weeks, leave truck at yard, my time off starts then, then I drive an hour home. This job would work great for someone else, not me. Research, youll find a fit.
    Good Luck,
    Happy Trails,

Carter express seems like a good starter company. US Express wants newbs to run team for 6 months. H.O.Woldin takes students as well and I've heard good things about them. Roehl has a great safety rating and seems like a good place to start as well.
