Sorry in advance if this has been brought up....

I was just approved for VRAP --paying for my schooling. I want to attend truck driving school, but they are 3-5,000 and VRAP only pays around 1400.00/mo. of training

Anyone know how this works? Any schools that will offset the cost until VRAP comes thru or offer apprentice training?

I'm in Cincinnati area, so can go to school anywhere in tri-state.

    Thanks!

Yes - as it worked for me, student has to attend the school full-time. I believe the VRAP "pay" is $1,546 per month. If your school takes a month, then the aforementioned amount is what the VA will handle, the rest is up to the student through means available (with most schools offering financing terms). The VA website is informative and from my experience the truck schools know how to handle the necessary paper.

    crimedoc96 Thanks this.

Sorry for the stupid question: Do a lot of schools offer their own financing? (to make up the rest)??
    Would that be a possibility?

Your best bet is to ask the schools. Do you have GI Bill? Some schools will work with it. Also, Some trucking companies like Swift will train you and take it out of your pay.

Yes, most schools offer some sort of financing. And as Flash01 indicated, there are a number of schools that offer training to obtain your commercial driver's license. Good luck!

One option is to go part time at your school if it's offered. As a previous poster mentioned you have to be a full-time student, but with both GI Bill and VRAP full-time is considered 22 hours a week (4.5 hours a day M-F). A 160 hour course would take just over 7 weeks. VRAP would reimburse you approx. $2,810 for 7 weeks in school. That should just about cover a $3,000 course. Talk with the school, show them your certificate of eligibility from VRAP and they should work with you. (If they don't find another school lol).

As always make sure the school is accredited and PTDI certified before you enroll. Good luck!

Also, funding from VRAP will probably be about 30 days behind your actual class dates. But again, talk with your school to make arrangements. My experience is once they see that certificate of eligibility you won't have trouble setting up a payment plan.

Most of the time CDL schools are a waste of taxpayers money . More than half of new hires at starter companies will quit within 6 months .
Veterans should train for a real career instead of being exploited by bottom feeder carriers .
Go ahead . Go for it . You'll regret it .
