Just wondering if anyone has experience with any of the schools in this area.
I've found places like Kotra and Eagle which have classes in Kenosha but otherwise appear to operate mostly out of Illinois. Both look okay, but if I'm not mistaken, Kotra is $1k cheaper.
Another one, in Waukesha, is the Professional CDL Training Institute. It's a pay as you go type of thing, and their fees are broken down into what you want to drive.
Eagle gets pretty good reviews, while I haven't found much on the other two.
Waukesha Technical College has a program, but gets enough bad reviews to probably ignore it. There's also a place called Lada which looks like a general driving school that also happens to do CDL training. Not sure what to make of that.
Then there is Roehl's program which is reasonably priced and gets good feedback. They are one of the starter companies I'm looking at because their Dairyland fleet looks interesting.
The problem with that one is, if at all possible, I need to hang on to my current full-time day job for as long as possible until I can make the transition. So yeah, I'm looking for night and weekend classes.
Any info you may have on these schools or others I may have overlooked would be appreciated. Thanks.

    c64basic Thanks this.

Not really southeast WI, there is one in Sun Prairie off US151. I don't remember the name, just have gone by it several times. Maybe they have a satellite school closer to you.

Sun Prairie and Fox Valley Tech (Appleton) both are the better schools in the east area of WI. You will have the freedom to go to any company after training. Roehl is also good but you will be working for the company after training. Go into the Roehl page on this web site and read what GoBlue has written. He just finished Roehl's school and training.

Yeah, Lada's the one that does some general driver's ed type of stuff as well as CDL.
They have varying degrees of instruction. The most comprehensive is $5600 and lasts 12 weeks, while many of the others are much cheaper and last 3-4 weeks.
Anything above $3000, I think I'd rather go with a big carrier that trains and just be indebted to them for whatever length of time.

I worked at conway and I absolutely hated it and I was very involved with them,VVT safety team, lean team but i will say your area is wis check out in milwaukee there driver trainee program, 3 month course and you have to stay a year and cdl free otherwise its $2000 prorated on how long you stay, I think its a great program for newbies!! I went to Sun Praire diesel driving school 13 years ago, paid 3000 and best money ever spent!!Wish more class room but oh well! Needless to say im at Saia and I LOVE IT!!

Thanks for the info. Still trying to decide on what to do. Fox Valley sounds top-notch, but being two hours away, it is a bit out of reach for keeping my current full-time job and attending school at night. I'd really like to find a way to make that one work.
Unfortunately, too much of a gap in employment would put a lot of strain on already tight finances.
I would consider Waukesha, but what people have said about it makes it less than appealing.
Then there's Roehl. I keep looking at them because they train and have a Wisconsin-and surrounding area route that looks tempting. This is where internet forums drive me crazy. There's so much information for and against every single company out there. Kind of like politics. You're picking the lesser of evils.
    Oh well. The search continues.

Roehl is a good starter company, top notch training but then do your year and you might want to look for greener pastures.
