Hey K. Don't sweat the stick what everybody says is right. You can get through it, then pick a company with automatics if you want. I haven't driven a stick since school. I LOVE the automatics! Great in a traffic jam. Many companies like the automatics because they do better on fuel mileage. When you get on with a company and with a trainer, I think you are better off with an automatic, that way you can worry about steering, turning, watching you r mirrors. Yeah you learn that in school, but out beyond the driving range it's a different world! Best of luck to you! When you finish, I would highly recommend Cargo Transporters, Hickory and Rocky Mount. ALL automatics free Sirius radio, satellite tv for $7./week, fridge, inverter! Checked out! Best of luck!

Thanks for what you wrote. Cargo Transporters eh? Sounds good and I will check them out when I get done with school. How do you feel about where to go to school? Company paid or community college (my plan is CC)? I need to make as much money as possible. How is CT doing for you as far as that goes?

    I think CC mi
I think going the CC route might be the cheaper route if you can foot the bill. I went to Sage School at Northern Nash CC in Rocky Mount ND and it cost me $4000 (5 plus years ago). CC should be less. Avoid going with a company contract if you can. Definitely avoid CR England as they have a not so good reputation. Schneider might be a good choice if you need to go company contract route to pay for school. I am no longer at Cargo Transporters, but after your training period (8weeks?-I never trained there) you should get over 40.cpm maybe 42.cpm to start, all autos decked out trucks, excellent dispatchers, great facilities especially at Claremont Headquarters (I use to call it the Country Club). Highly.recommend this company especially starting out. Hope this helps.

Thanks George. I am going to peek at Sage School to see what it is all about. I can handle tuition if necessary. To me, the bottom line is that I have to have a job upon obtaining my CDL that will pay the bills I have without expecting me to be a dock worker as well. I don't mind, and actually think I will prefer, driving long distances or being away from home. Thanks again, and if you think of anything else to share, my eyes and ears are open and ready to learn.

How do you feel about team driving?
North Carolina is loaded with good jobs for teams and solo.
Let me know; I'll give you some company names for long haul trucking for solo or teams.
Here's a couple of examples, but there's plenty more. Bottomley is teams and Magnum is solo.
