Been looking at options for schools, Windsor’s in NJ and Commercial Driver Training in NY both offer 130 hours, but Windsor’s is about $3000 cheaper because they don’t do classroom permit prep, drug testing etc. Was just wondering if a certificate from them would qualify as a reputed CDL school? Do schools /have/ to have a classroom portion in order for companies to consider graduates from them?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

130 hours is pretty light anymore. Many companies want at least 160 hr if not 200. And as @Concorde said, You can't drive the trruck, even in training with a permit, until you pass a drug test.

    What's your plan in trucking?
Go for the 160 hr. school at least.

Do you have to test even for private individuals lessons? I would assume that’s how they get by it?

When they say 160 hours, is it really 160 hours in the truck or 20 hours behind the wheel and 140 watching 10 others try and back up through a set of cones?

tscottme and Rubber duck kw Thank this.

Wilson Logistics has the best plan; majority of their school is on the road delivering freight with an instructor.

I don't know, every school is different.
Lots of time is spent on the yard practicing backing and doing pre-trip inspections.
The most difficult part of cdl school is learning the pre-trip inspection.

    tscottme and AModelCat Thank this.
