    Ya'll (you know who you are) need to get off your "high-horse" about LongHaul's posting. As someone who is currently in CDL training and looking for quality employment opportunities for this career transition, what I read concerning Schuster is PROs & CONS he has experienced so far and detailed information about the company.

    Unlike some of you, there are some good people on this forum that try to present information in a way that individuals can make "sound" decisions. Because of LongHaul's, post I've added a company to my short list.

    Calling @LongHaulHighway, nice thread good info. Do the trucks have fridges in them? What about per diem, practical miles or hhg? Is there a line 5 for pc?

    .40 cpm isn't good money. Not today and not even 10 years ago. The wasted time alone babysitting a reefer, fueling it up, and especially taking it get washed out, essentially for free and it's enough to drive just about everyone who tries it nuts. Add in the appointments to load and unload, the lumpers, who you the driver will end up paying with advanced out of your own check half the time and I think I'd rather drive a school bus

    To each his/her own... {shrug}

    I am making .37 CPM now with a mix of mostly dry and some reefer, so .40 CPM sounds pretty good, that is if they have the miles.

    And it would be an extreme case for me to shell out for a lumper out of my own pocket.

    But, enjoy that School Bus my friend... ;-)

    It is on a case by case basis. For example, proven military experience or job experience in a position that would have required a high level of discipline, attention to detail and safety awareness plays a role in the hiring decision. I don't think they'll take just any recent CDL graduate since Schuster is not a trucking school or a daycare.

    Trucks do not come with fridges but you can get one if you like. The International is the best choice if you want to get a fridge because you can simply purchase an affordable dorm room fridge and the sleeper area is designed with that in mind (it can slide right in underneath the shelving). The Freightliner requires either the expensive fridge designed specifically for its cabinetry, or you can have the guys in the shop modify or remove the Freightliner cabinet that sits behind the passenger seat so you can put an inexpensive fridge in.

    Schuster does not factor in per diem. Instead they simply give you access to your logs at the terminal so you can easily see how many days you were out, and how much hometime you spent and supply that to your tax man.

    Schuster pays practical miles.

    You can off-duty drive for 30 minutes but I never use it. They just have it there if you need to make a run to the store and back when you're in town at the Le Mars terminal. There are two four-wheeler vans available for drivers to use to make personal runs into town. When it comes to hometime transportation from the truck I just use the Uber app on my phone, which is much cheaper than a taxi and more convenient than having to twist a friend's arm to come pick me up.

    We're supposed to believe 40 CPM isn't good money but I defy anyone to go find a long list of companies that have a base pay well over 40 CPM [that aren't proven liars and that aren't ridiculously difficult to get into]. I don't know what this babysitting a reefer nonsense is either. Fueling the reefer doesn't take that long, and I rarely have to get a trailer washed out. Even with van freight you'll have live load and unload appointments, unless you magically get a 100% drop-and-hook gig. This bit about having to pay lumpers out of your own pocket is simply absurd. I've never had to pay a lumper out of my own pocket, even working at CR England in my first year.

    The above poster is a perfect example of someone who h-as absolutely no business in trucking. He is nothing but a whiner and complainer with no legitimate gripes—just cry-baby embellishments and outright lies that he cooked up in his own pessimistic imagination. Truly pathetic that he haunts this forum with absolutely nothing helpful to say at all.

    Go drive a school bus and get away from this forum. . .you're too soft for this industry.

    LHH...
    Adding my name to the list of those thanking you for the great post!
    Nice job. Will have to keep Schuster in mind.

    PS... I forgot to ask. A lot of places are moving to autos for their trucks. Are the FL and Internationals at Schuster automatics? What's the % of manuals and autos? Thx!
