While that could have been stated more tactfully he isn't entirely wrong.

Nice to see that getting a CDL sets you up with qualifications for so many well respected and great paying careers. (That was sarcasm by the way)

Used to own a small refinishing business and sent out 10 to 35 W2's every year. Now, somebody else owns it and has that headache.

    Bret1984 Thanks this.

    I don't doubt that was a headache.

My Son In Law is a Lt Col assigned to the 101st at Ft Campbell. When he read this comment his reply to me is unprintable here.

Soldiers like drivers have opinions and like companies some like different duty stations better than others. About 90% of soldiers hate Korea. It's considered a hardship duty. Especially area 1 2ID warrior country. Me on the other hand I loved Korea and still occasionally can be seen wearing my hat with the Indian head patch. For the longest time that was the last hold out of the old school army. We were still doing sergeants time training every Thursday which I loved but unfortunately everywhere else stopped doing that. We also did payday activities which everyone else stopped doing for whatever reason. Most soldiers love Germany and don't want to leave. They'd keep reenlisting for assignment stabilization. I hated Germany because it was a good ole boy program. Every NCO promotion I was in formation for included the words "I've known this soldier since he was a private so I know he's good for the job". A buddy of mine absolutely loved Ft Polk which is definitely a rarity. He's an avid outdoorsman and said hunting and fishing there is in mass abundance. He called it a sportsman's paradise. Most guys hate being that far back in the swamps in the middle of nowhere. Another friend of mine spent several years at Campbell and didn't care for it. He had already had different assignments and didn't drink up all the hoaah hooah air assault kool-aid. He just did his job then got out and became a deputy sheriff in Nashville. Lots of soldiers hate Hawaii. Supposedly it is a nice vacation spot but after a couple of years the island just gets too small and people start feeling stranded on an island. I have a friend there now who absolutely loves Hawaii. His wife is from the Philippines so closer to home for her. He just finished building a house in the Philippines and plans to retire there. He should be able to live very comfortably with his pension there. He also says he has a pretty good group there that he gets along with. Of course a change of command can fix that. Perhaps your son in law is a great BN commander who appoints the best qualified (not the good ole boys) to the CO and 1SG positions in his BN. I might actually get all the support I need to do my job and train my soldiers there and absolutely love it. Then fast forward a couple of years he moves on to further his career, I happily donate for his plaque only to later get the goof troop taking over. Then everything goes down hill as I'm dealing with idiots and just doing my best to shield my soldiers from as much of the BS as I can.

Irregardless of what your son in law says I'll maintain my original statement. That 1 combat brigade on that little overseas camp far away from division and corps is shielded from all the new army PC "woke" nonsense. NCO's actually get to be NCO's as everything is far less micromanaged. We're able to focus on training and not just keeping everything Parade pretty in case the general drives by. When they did that big army wide stand down to push "wokeness" and address "extremism" in the army awhile back do you think that lone infantry brigade out there left to their own devices actually participated? Heck no, they didn't! They mocked it, ridiculed it then just checked the blocks and sent up the paperwork to say they did it. Your son in law didn't have that option with division right next door.
