23 years in trucks and he didn't know to be ready for idiot 4-wheelers and not to leave a truck hundreds of miles from the terminal? I should think that with that amount of time in, he would know better.

But, what do I know...I'm just a rookie with a paltry little four years in.

If you can't stop your rig safely just because someone stops in front of you means you're following too closely. Most think the following distance stated in the drivers manual is stupid. In this case it was a pretty good idea. You are getting mad at others for your own actions.

Where were you when your truck was in the shop? In a motel getting breakdown pay? Or at home getting breakdown pay?

To be honest, if you weren't getting breakdown pay for a month, I wouldn't be there either. I would of quit with in a week. Rather a strange circumstance. If you were getting breakdown pay, then you should of toughed it out a little longer. Changing jobs after a preventable accident is not a good thing to do.

If they starved you for a month, I would fight the DAC report. If you got breakdown pay, you don't have a leg to stand on.

I kind of get the idea they wanted to fire you after the accident. Starve you out until you quit and then they aren't charged with an unemployment claim.

If or not you were at fault for the hole in the trailer, one thing stands out like a sore thumb. Did you ever sign an authorization form allowing the company to deduct the $3000 out of your pay? If not, the company had no right to do so. Anything that is deducted out of your pay, other than a deduction that is "court ordered" is illegal if you have not sign allowing the deduction. Even tax deductions require your signature. You have a legal case against the company if you care to pursue it, if you did not authorize the deduction.

I just know you're joking right???

As to the rest of the story as I was able to wade through it. Yerah he was a little bit to blame about a car pulling off the shoulder in front of him. He should have been sliding to the left as he approached them or slowing down a little. Those 23 years he shows says so!

$3000 for a patch job? Must have been one heck of a hole not to mention the OS$D from damaged product.

Then they left him somewhere in BFE with his card cutt off and no money? I'd be packing bags also! Or burning up the phone every 5 minutes until someone got tired of listening to
But the best is it took them 3 freaking weeks to pull a tranny out of one truck and a week to get ABF, FedX , UPS, Yellow or Roadway to get it to the repair shop? That speaks volumes about Steward! It took MY company 3 DAYS to pull one off and get it from here to ALBQ! I think I'll over look them as they didn't give a rats patootie about the OP!

There is a way to quit a company without burning bridges and avoiding bad consequences.
There is also a way to quit a company that really pisses them off and the gloves come off.

Use the 1st method next time. You may have thought you stuck it to them and showed them they can't #### with you.... well apparently they are laughing and you are not. Nearly every story on this BAD board has another side... the huge ego and poor decisions of drivers.

That is what happens when you quit and leave someone's expensive equipment out on the road. As far as your accident I agree with the company. You were not in control of your truck. If you were you would have avoided that whole situation. Hate to be a "richard" here but I believe you are your own demise in this situation. Trucking believe it or not is a profession and that is how you have to act, professionally. Lucky for you with a preventable accident and truck abandonment on your record I don't think you will have to go back to trucking anytime soon.
