I went for my FIRST DOT Physical a couple days ago, and when i was finished, the doctor told me everything was good and to wait in the room while they made me my card...i waited, and then eventually they told me i was set to go, on my way out, they handed me a SEALED envelope that said CONFIDENTIAL, with the College's name on the top since thats where i will be doing my CDL classes, and on the bottom it said "[my name] DOT P.E. Physical Exam"....i was just curious, was i supposed to actually recieve a card while i was there? or is it inside the envelope and i have to wait until the 1st day of class and have the instructor open it?? any help would be appreciated.![]()

Leave it sealed and hand it to the instructor. You open it you just voided the results.
-
What's the worse they could do if you did open it? After all it does have your name on it. Maybe you could hold it up to the light. Or steam it open.
-
is it marked "TOP SECRET"

The results will be revealed on the next Maury Povich "Who's my daddy?" show. Stay tuned!

many times when i have had a DOT physical that the company pays for, i do not even get the envelope, they mail everything to the employer. the times the company pays for the DOT and i do get the health card, was because the employer allowed it.
if it is ONLY a school you DID PAY for that DOT as part of your tuition. open it up, as it concerns you. what will the school do, kick you out..??
hardly, they want YOUR MONEY.... -
It probably contains your card. Lots of places send the card to your employer, they copy it for record then give you the card. You passed so just turn it in.

Some companies pull that trick in case you quit. They don't want you getting a free medical card at their expense. I'd say the school is doing the same thing if you haven't paid them yet??

If a doctor finds something that disqualifies you he has to discuss it with you. So there shouldn't be a hidden disqualification in that envelope.
A lot of these places are stretching and breaking the rules. Not only does HIPPA allow you copies of your own medical records the FMCSA says the doctor must give you the original and the third party can have a copy.
