In case you have any delusions about your ability to control a vehicle without a seatbelt if you drift off the road, this gentleman fell asleep and went off roading. Do you think he had any control of his vehicle once it left the pavement?

At 0:10 the initial impact of going off road throws him violently toward the passenger seat and then forward toward the dash. At 0:11 he's rocked hard to the driver's side window and backward. Notice he's one of these cool guys that likes to drive one handed. By 0:13 he's desperately trying to gain control of the steering wheel with one hand while bracing his right hand against the passenger's seat.

By 0:14 he is completely ejected from the driver's seat to the ceiling against the passenger's side door, four seconds after leaving the road. By 0:15 he's in the back seat of the vehicle.

Last time I checked it's pretty hard to control a vehicle when you aren't in the driver's seat.

While this video is showing a passenger vehicle with an unbelted driver that seems to have rolled the vehicle by 0:16 and you could argue that being in a big rig would be a much different experience, think about this video the next time you hit a large bump in the road, like one of those vehicle eating potholes in Chicago or New York. Now amplify THAT impact by a factor of at least four. THAT's what it feels like to go off road in a big rig.

Do YOU think you could maintain control of a runaway big rig with the cruise control set at freeway speed once you go off road? How about if you weren't wearing a seat belt and your feet were no longer near the pedals? How about if your body gets rocketed away from the driver's seat and you lose your grip on the steering wheel?

Falling asleep is one thing. How about blowing a steer tire?

Wear the ###### seat belt. Four young women are dead in Oklahoma and I'm betting they died because the driver failed to wear a seat belt.

Yeah, I wondered about that as well. Perhaps he was driving a company car and they installed a driver cam?

nope, i was in a bad accident years ago and was ran off the road by an impared driver. a tree limb came thu windshield of my pickup and went right thru seat back if i had been belted in I would have been killed. I don't have to worry about it in my personal cars as my pickup and wifes car are old enough they didn't come with belts at time of mfg. i have no use for new plastic junk. both have been restored and just as reliable as a new car. but officers do like to pull me over because they see no belt. i live in a primary seat belt state. love it when they think they got a ticket to write. NOT!

I saw this video in the past. If I remember right, he was a taxi driver. If you search youtube for it, you can see a video with this inward view and the outward view together....

My seatbelt is always on, and if you're a passenger in my vehicle, car or truck, you will have one on, too, or we don't go anywhere. If you refuse to in my vehicle, find another ride.

i have seen my share of HORRIBLE accidents as well...ppl pinned under vehicles etc, i only wear one in my personal vehicle buz its easier for a cop to see. i used to never wear one driving a truck til they starting enforcing it so much, then i only did in the day time..at night never, unless crossing the scales...i dont think we should have to wear one. what about ppl on a motorcycles ??? they dont even have one...i am claustrophobic wearing one....i can still die while wearing one.

What about buses and school children, why no mandatory seat belts?. Just a money grab. More states need to be like new hampshire under 18 seat belt over 18 your choice.
