I try to in truck but either I forget or the thing locks up to where I can't move and get mad so remove it. Personally I feel trapped In one even when it dont acted up so I dont wear most the time but have more lately as insurance goes up with the tickets and they cost so much. Plus had a friend killed by his in an accident it crushed his windpipe somehow reports say he would have made had he not had one on. I know people will say its saved more than taken so still just personal preference.

It's about your opinion on seat belts....you've given yours as well as RoadMedic. I'm curious as to his take, I'm sure he has seen the benefits as well as the dangers of wearing one vs not wearing one. He can add lots to this debate on that point I'm sure.

always....not because of any policy, law, or safe driving practice, but simply because I've worn one so long, it just don't feel right without one. Heck, just driving across the parking lot I have to remind myself that I really don't need one.....

Used to never wear a seat belt. Got tickets, paid the fine. I just objected to being told that in MY vehicle,I had to obey a rule for MY safety. Just rebelled against the idea of MY government telling me what I had to do. Should be my choice.
Now for nearly 15 years I ran fire / EMS / LEO vehicles, and I always used them. Those were the rules, I have no arguement they are life-savers at times. But I detest being forced to do something when I have a choice.

Now I am older, and decided ( MY DECISION ) to use them. Maybe 70 % of the time now, but trying to remember to do it always.

I never use to wear mine, seen people saved and people killed by the seatbelt over the years with the fire department, I now wear one all the time, but only because it is the law in most states and was company policy at least one of the carriers I have driven for.

Compliance with the regulations. Not complying with the regulations for seat belts, except for company policy. I figured if the company did not require the log book, you would just skip it as well.

Just seemed so odd to say you only comply because of the company policy.

Personally do as they want. Darwin award can be presented afterwards posthumously.

Anymore, I only ask if they were wearing the seat belt for injury problems associated either way. I go back to the house or fire house and do not lose sleep over their choice.

    One thing to add.

Yes, there are accidents where seat belts may be detrimental, but for the most part not.

Don't make assumptions about my life, please. KTHX.

If you want to know how I feel about logs, feel free to ask, in an appropriate thread. I'm not much of one for chasing straw men around.

    Do not really care.

I only pointed out that the regulations have had it required since 1971. You stated you did not care and only did it because it was company policy.

It just seemed so odd to me to be that way.

It is not a straw man or what ever you want to refer. You have to justify it to yourself, not me.

If I come across someone not wearing them and they are in bad shape, I lose no sleep over their choice.

Headed down to the fire house for extrication training tonight. I will pass this thread of knowledge on to them for their thoughts.

    Have fun with class.

I PREACH it at B.R.A.K.E.S classes to the teens to wear their seatbelts. If I hadn't of been wearing mine in my semi accident, I probably would of possibly been run over by my own truck or broke both of my legs.

After dealing with motorsports for years, I don't know why anyone wouldn't wear them. Yes, some people car killed in accidents even with them on, but if you run into a big solid object, sometimes nothing can save you.

But if you wear them, wear them properly, I see people with the belt tucked under their arm, that is as deadly as not wearing one. In an impact, as you're thrown forward, the belt becomes tight and pulls up under the arm and there is an important artery there and many people have bled to death because of improperly wearing a seat belt.
