Seat belts....do you always "buckle-up for safety"

I am the "what if "person .

Say my car flips over , (I am buckled in) car catches fire , but I am traped , seat belt won't release , and now there's a spark from the electrical system . To make it all worse my seat belt is jammed ...

When I was riding with my husband in 2008, we came across at least 3 wrecks that were rollovers. I am sure they all didn't decide that day to die, but that was what happened; if only they would have taken 30 sec to buckle up, perhaps they would have been alive. One of the craziest wrecks was someone who went flying by us in WI and the left lane ended, they ended up hitting the crossover and went flying. The worst part was they at first thought a baby or young child was in the car, and had responders going up and down an embankment looking, it was dark and very cold out.

When we were a lot younger, we never used them either, seatbelts are second nature now. We have grandkids to come home to, and help raise.

 

In 1984 my friend and I were discussing the merits of seatbelts. We came upon a head on collision, and both were wearing their seatbelts, and survived. I started wearing mine then all the time.

 

Buckling up is and has never been a safety question for me.
For me it is as simple as it is cheaper to put it on and not be hassled by a one bullet Barney than it is to not put it on .

I don't like to give the safety Nazi any reason to pull me over that I can avoid .
A simple click is just my way of not having to deal with a over grown hall monitor !!!

So to answer the original question no I don't ever buckle up for safety.
I buckle up for savings LOL.

 

They are designed to help save your life in a crash ...along with the airbags ... for trucks it's to keep you from being ejected and crushed (#1 way truck drivers die in accidents). People can say "government ain't gonna run my life" but when it comes to the seat belt I just put it on. I think it's stupid not to.

The "what if I'm in a crash and can't get loose" crowd can stop and think hey, that belt likely got you to the point you survived the crash in the first place. Unless you crashed into a pit of foam doused in gasoline?

 

Hey lady how you doing?Anyway how do you know they weren't wearing their seat belt?People die every day on our roads and the majority of them wore their seat belt.Same with truck drivers.They do help but depending on the crash they don't save some lives.Those truck drivers that unfortunately died probably was traveling at a high rate of speed,seat belt won't help in those situations.Don't get me wrong I wear a seat belt but that's not going to save your life from a head on collision.

 

Carry a seat belt cutter with you. Most of the school buses have them for the driver. They were mounted in various places within reach of the driver. Then you have the best of both worlds.

My wife's brother was an investigation deputy, and he never saw a seat belt failure, but saw a lot of dead bodies outside the cars after a crash when belts were not worn. He has got the pictures to prove it.

 

In the triage situation I was in last week, the wounded animal sounds coming from the young man that was thrown from the car and probably had it roll over him still haunt me. Death isn't the worst result of being thrown from your vehicle. At the best he'll have months or years of pain and likely permanent disabilities. The only person that walked out of the car, albeit with injuries, was wearing his belt.

 

Well sir , I can definitely appreciate what you're sayin and all but I will do my thing and you can do yours.

If I am in that bad of an accident I would rather go then be a potato.

 

A vegetable is an apt metaphor to describe many of those that don't die after being thrown from the vehicle. Living life drinking food from a straw and being a burden on their families.
