I wear set belts. As a pilot I would not think about flying without a seat belt on and I am much less likely to have a wreck in the Air. I have been in what I believe is more then the usual number of wrecks on the ground. The seat belt kept my face from going through the windshield. But I do not believe the government has any right in telling me what I can and cannot do with my BODY. I do not see anywhere in the Constitution where they have the right to dictate to me how I should act to protect myself. Helmet laws on motorcycles? I wear one but it is my choice. Illegal drugs, I don't use them. But it is also my choice.
I had an officer on a scale who gave me hell about how I was wearing my seat belt. I have a habit of throwing my arm over the shoulder belt when I have to lean forward. I did so as I rolled the window down to hear the speaker. He tried to write me up for no seat belt. His supervisor tore up the ticket after a talk with me.
Our country use to have some backbone. I believe we have become a nation that has given up the idea that freedom is what makes us great. Instead we believe that passing a new law will solve everything. Give me Liberty or Give me more regulations.
Seat belts....do you always "buckle-up for safety"

Paramedic for 12 years, truck driver the balance. This one is dear to my heart.
I scraped more human goo off windshields and trees in 10 years "paramedic-ing" thinking I might actually have a chance at making a difference in some poor soul's life than God Almighty meant any person to even SEE in a LIFETIME.
You can't put a gun to my head and make me watch one of them horror movies with gratuitous gore. I think it is blatantly, PATENTLY and straight out shamefully playing on the sad, sick and unfortunately very popular blood lust of today's largest market demographic.
Youthful lust and fervent zealous pursuit of all pleasure; (we all did it so don't judge). "I'm immortal" feeling. I picked up you AND your prom date - dead on my arrival.
If you two stupid, love-sick , horney dumbarses had JUST WORN YOUR SEATBELTS and WAITED until you got TO Delco Lake to make out - etc.,
You'd be going home with a broken arm and leg.
NOPE.
I gotta tell my friends their daughter and son are dead. Thanks. You're dead from your dumb mistake. The rest of us that loved you have to live a lifetime with the grief.
Wear your freakin' seatbelts people.
If for NO other reason; EMS is absolutely so absolutely sick and tired of scraping folks off and outta the windshield, off trees and outta ditches, so mangled that the gore of your splattered / run over body ruins so many suppers it ain't even remotely funny.
Medics got in the biz to SAVE lives; Not scrape human goo into a body bag. We/ They/ You can easily deal with some broken bones.
Head all pumpkin smashed and the rest of the shredded meat because someone didn't use the simplest thing right there at their finger tips for a wide variety of ######## reasons and we have to make that: "Ma'am, I regret to inform you . . .' visit.
There is ABSOLUTELY no reason on God's green and blue earth for ANYONE to NOT wear their seatbelt.
Give me an argument why not and I'll give you TEN as to why that is BS.
If you don't believe seatbelts save live thn you are of the mindset that gravity doesn't exist.
THEY ARE UNCOMFORTABLE.
Get OVER it.
So are MOST things we do.
This particular one saves lives though.

I don't move unless my seatbelt is securely fastened. Been that way since I started driving 11 years ago and it won't ever change. Would just be foolish not to with all the information we have at our disposal these days. But then again I'm a smoker, so I'm also a hypocrite I guess.

To borrow a phrase from the liberal crowd, "My body, my choice." -
I always wear mine. I like being held to the seat. Wore one my whole life and its just part of what I do when I get in the truck.
DirkSteel Thanks this. -
when rolling thru a scale or in bad weather, otherwise not very often
-
The only time I don't wear a seat belt is when backing. It ends up distracting me if it doesn't extend/retract as I move plus it's a pain when I have to do the "move a foot and GOAL, move a foot and GOAL, move a foot and GOAL, move a foot and GOAL" thing.
-
I put it on every time I go into a weigh station ....or if I see a cop

I read years ago that the #1 cause of trucker death was being ejected from the truck. I don't know if that is still the case today, but I've seen several people who did exactly that and I want NO part of it. I wear my seat belt and I hope to God that I never run over someone who doesn't. It happens in a split second.
NavigatorWife and DirkSteel Thank this.
