Hey gang. Question about a third passenger in a semi. And I've already read up a lot on company / insurance guidelines, waivers, and what is / is not allowed. So no need to go down that path.
If I wanted to take a third passenger (pre-teen) on a trip with me, the only place for him to sit would be the bed in the back. There are no other seats available. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can do this safely? For example, are there manufactures that make options to temporarily 'convert' a bed into a seat? Or special belts I can get to keep him restrained?
Or would I just tell him to have a seat in the bed, knowing there aren't any other options to protect him in the event of an accident.

Your truck is used as an RV; not for commercial purposes. Check with an RV dealership and ask what they recommend.

All trucks come equipped with safety nets for both top and bottom bunk. They attach with buckles, like a seat belt.
At least, all trucks 'should' have them. They have been standard equipment in every truck I've been in.
The person would be unrestrained, but with a net between the bunk and cab to restrain any 'flying objects'.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Just tie a few Carrick Bend's to secure them in place.

Just because I'm being contrary this morning.
I got my first Class D in 1961, been driving ever since. Had a Chauffer's license, have my CDL. I always wear my seat belt in the big truck. I usually wear my selt belt in my Silverado. In the big rig I wear it for safety and because I could get popped if I don't. In the Silverado, I wear it because I might get popped if I don't. So it's fear that makes me wear my seat belt, either fear of getting smushed in a crash or fear of police intervention.
In all these years of driving, too many crashes (only one at fault in a car) my seat belt has not once been useful in my life. Insurance is like that. You pay and pay for years, and it's great to have if you need it. But if you don't the insurance companies just keep the money. It's why they own a large percentage of high rise office buildings around the world.
There has to be a better way, and I'm sure there is, I just don't know what that would be.
I do know Obamacare is the greatest gift any industry has ever received. Buckets of money. -
