I’ve searched for an hour and yet to find anything. Guess I’m using the wrong keyword. If there’s another thread out there can someone post the link. I’m hauling some train car wheels tomorrow and just looking for a little insight on the best way to secure them. Seen them on the highway dozens of times but never paid that close of attention. Obviously chains but what is the proper way?
    Thanks

I have J-plates, I used 1 chain per 3... the first 3 and last 3 got an extra chain...

Is the place providing you racks like the last few are on the tail of my trailer or will you be using dunnage like the middle and nose of my trailer are loaded?

Edit: just saw you meant axles and wheels. My info is for wheels only.
They gave me a printout page showing exactly how they want it. Won’t let you leave unless it’s exact.

A quick breakdown is chains over the first and last stack of wheels. Each stack has 4 wheels. 1 chain over the top, 1 chain in the center (so 2 wheels above and below where the chain rests) pulling at a 45 degree angle to keep from forward or rear movement. Straps on all the other stacks of wheels.

From the sounds of it you didn't load what I have in the picture.

I assumed that's what he is loading tomorrow maybe I'm wrong?

Im getting what you have pictured. I’m not sure if they’ll provide they’ll provide racks or not. I’m assuming they will provide them since the broker didn’t ask me about any dunnage but I have enough if not.

I dont know where your loading them at but I loaded these in Indiana. I wouldn't do it again. They had two guys working ( they definitely should of had more guys) One guy on the forklift and then the other guy and myself on the deck of my trailer would push the axles towards the nose of my trailer as the guy on the forklift set them down.... It was a PIA...

The Jhooks I have made securing them much easier than if I would of had to go rail to rail on the trailer.

He described the way I was loaded too. That is ONLY wheels, without axles.
