    Hi everyone,

First post, although I've learned a good bit from you folks just by reading through some threads.

Here's my deal. I sell/broker grass sod, and sub out the transportation of most of my product (delivered via 18-wheelers,)... but I get a lot of calls for "one pallet" of grass, which I don't want 18 wheeler drivers using there time on this, not too mention delivering in residential areas from a semi is obviously less than ideal.

Therefore... I purchased a 2000 Int'l 4700 flatbed, (26000 lbs), along with a forklift. Should have my forklift mounting completed this week, and hope to deliver some grass the following week.... should max out with a 6 pallet load.

Although its been several years ago, I've got some experience driving a commercial truck, just a little bit smaller than this one... but I don't have any experience securing a load like this.

My truck has the rachet straps installed already, and that's what the drivers I sub to use also...

With the forklift on the back, I plan to always load from the front to the back... Any other tips, pointers, advice or anything else would be appreciated.

of course, I'll get one of my sub'd drivers to show me what they know too...

My first trailer trucking job was hauling sod. I seldom tarped it. We did have a net type tarp. I think everyone down there in florida does it now. I never strapped it down.

In Ca. they tarp those loads (palletized sod) and bungee the tarp to the rail. Seems minimal to me, but should be legal or else CHP would be issuing tickets. I do see occassionally sod squares on the highway. Once saw half a pallet load on the highway. I also notice sometimes with a leaning pallet, the loader loaded it leaning outward instead of inward. Kinda dumb, right?

Most all now require net tarps and one strap per pallet row (2).
Still see it done in this manner so it must not have changed much since I last hauled the stuff ??
