I've seen the "legal" word pop up in several posts back throught the last 3 pages. There is no Federal law that prohibits carrying a firearm in a CMV.

I have 2 short aluminum bats i keep by me at all times. I have a 3 inch wide ratchet strap going from one door to the other so the door cannot be opened they would have to break the window and crawl in and get a beat down with the bat in the process.

Keep your vents closed so you don't get gassed. Years ago I was gassed at the 76 in Slidell. La. and slept right through getting robbed. Had my pants on and she cut my pockets with a straight razor. That's getting too close to the family jewels. Driver next to me was in a cabover with a Doberman. She robbed him, had to crawl over him to get at his pants. Knocked the Dobie out to.

Most of the ideas here are worthless in the real world. Number 1 if you know your in a bad area drive to a good area before sleeping. I really don't care what the company has to say about it, Im keeping the truck, trailer and driver safe as possible. Insecticide could leave you liable so could a flare gun, Really your inside your bunk, someone is breaking to to your truck do you really want to shoot off a flare gun into the front of your cab, gee the crook is gone and your killed by the fire you just set. Same thing do you really want to spray a insecticide inside a small area your also inside, maybe not such a great idea.

Your worried about saftey in your sleeper and the next suggestion is backing your trailer into a wall or the dock and disconnecting, yeah that secured your cab, Yeah that will keep them from breaking into your cab.

Simple check out the area, if your not comfortable do not park there. When you park in a store lot, park in a well lit area. If you want something to spray, get a can of mace thats what it is designed for. leave your engine idling and your radio on. A dog is not a bad idea although I could tolerate the smell of a animal in the cab. Be observant, let the company know your concerns regarding safety of the truck and yourself . See if the other drivers at your company have found a safe place top park in the area of concern.

Good luck and most important trust your commonsense.

In a very large number of cases victims are shot with there own guns. I believe in rights to own guns. I have not run into a situation in a lot of years of driving that a gun would have improved anything. Commonsense is far more effective at keeping you safe than any other method. Drivers need to pay attention to there surroundings. And your right there is no federal law regarding carrying a gun in your truck, There are state and local law. Also you better be able to prove the need for deadly force, just claiming you were in fear is not enough.

So you have a really strong strap running between 2 plastic door handle, yup this will slow them down for about a second. If your sleeping your bats probably wont do you a lot of good, also try to swing it inside your sleeper. Mace is better.

Geez ... you have all the fun. :biggrin_2554:

Funny you mention the vents, when parking in less than desireable neighbourhoods I've been in the habit of closing mine. I had been wondering if I'm just paranoid... :biggrin_25523:

I do often sleep with the 2nd-floor window(s) open (sometimes only the street-side one) though as I actually sleep on the top bunk.

I have mace. And yes the straps work very well. You would have to have 4 people to loosen them from the outside. If you havent used this method then dont sit there and knock it because it has worked 3 times. The the bats are 14 inches and can be swung easily in my cab.
