so with big brother and dealers up our butt ......

My thoughts were if one was to splice into the ground wire for the diagnostic port. And put it on a spare switch you could stop everyone from unauthorized ecm communication..... the lap top would still power up but with the ground open no communication would happen......

Now a dealer would just get cranky and pull the wiring harnesses off the back of the ecm and get to it that way . But a roadside inspection not so much.......

And with a flick of a switch by you all would be right.....

    Just a thought......

Maybe out in the east but I've never heard of that happening out here in the west. As far as I know there aren't any speed limiter laws in western Canada that I'm aware of.

Would you agree the lap top would power up but no communication would happen with the ground cut.....?

If you just cut the power line it would just be dead and they would know ......

I'm not sure. The only diagnostic program I've used that requires a comm adapter is CAT ET. I'm not 100% but I'm thinking the comm adapter is powered by the data port, which means the comm adapter would need power and ground to power up.

    Cat sdp Thanks this.
